I am just back from Yumthang. A severe avalanche in March destroyed a small stretch of road between Lachung and Yumthang. Otherwise road is fine. Dont visit Yumthang in Yune. You will not find anything. It is cold rain, clouds and muddy roads in June. Moreover landslides may be fatal at times, due to the loose rock strata of Himalayas. I have seen boulders the size of a 5 story building rolling down the mountains. OMG... it is too dangerous. Even the Indian Army avoids the season. Go in May 1st week for maximum pleasure. I have been contacting a few travel agents and hotel regarding booking ... i got completely different feedback from a few of them which has added to my confusion One of them says that it would be raining, but still manageable and you would be able to visit places like North Sikkim and Nathula. However, others say its totally not advisable to visit Sikkim at this point as it has already started raining heavily and landslides have started to occur. They mentioned that North Sikkim is totally out of the question in last week of June due to landslides and rains.
