In his Mann ki Baat program last month, PM Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative was gaining momentum as a people's movement. In that program, he appealed to people to change their social media profiles to that of the tricolour between August 2-15. "August 2 is a special day... I have changed my social media DP and I urge you to do so," Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is based on five themes - Freedom, Ideas, Resolve, Actions and Achievements. Under the 'Freedom' theme, the government has focused on bringing out stories of unsung heroes who made sacrifices in India's freedom struggle. Some of the events organized under this theme include - Birsa Munda Jayanti, Shaheed Diwas, Declaration of Provisional Government of Free India by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, besides others. The much-celebrated, and, to an extent, politicized Har Ghar Tiranga campaign is also being carried out under this theme of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The 'Ideas' theme 'focuses on programmes and events inspired by ideas and ideals that have shaped the country and will guide India as the nation navigates through the 'period of Amrit Kaal', the next 25 years towards the 100th anniversary of India's independence.
