40K families in MP will face submergence: Narmada Bachao Andolan

BHOPAL: More than 40,000 families living in several districts of Madhya Pradesh would come under sub-mergence with the increase in the height of Sardar Sarovar Dam from 121.92 metres to 138.68 metres, claimed activists of Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) on Thursday. The activists claimed that Narmada Control Authority (NCA) clearance to Gujarat government is against the decision of the apex court. "The apex court order said that until and unless rehabilitation of oustees is not done, the height of dam should not be increased," Alok Agarwal of NBA said. "We have also written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard," Agarwal said. NBA will challenge the decision of the authority in court, he added.
