If you are a lover of fantasy romance, looking for a unique story that has all of your favorite tropes, love a good morally gray male main character, and needing something binge-able, this book is for you. The Blood and Ash series by Jennifer L. Armentrout or the Plated Prisoner series by Raven Kennedy basically had a love child that is A Dawn of Onyx, book one in the Sacred Stones trilogy by Kate Golden – and as a lover of both series, I can tell you why. Kate weaves a magical story about a healer, Arwen, who has had healing abilities since she was a young child, with no explanation for how they developed. She helps provide for her mother and sister through her abilities since her brother is off at war and her step-father passed away. The Onyx King is at war with Arwen’s home, the Amber Kingdom. There are multiple kingdoms, each centered around a jewel that has a unique landscape and climate based around their jewel. For example, the Amber Kingdom is perpetually in fall, with fall-like temperatures, golden leaves, etc. Until her brother comes shows up unexpectedly at their home and he is labeled a traitor and thief for leaving the war with the Onyx King’s gold. Arwen gets tangled up in her brother’s mess and offers her healing abilities as a way to pay for his debt. While she’s a prisoner, she meets a mysterious man who sparks her interest.
