ABC ID mandatory for university admission from 2023, says UGC chairman; students face Aadhaar hurdle

NEW DELHI: From this academic year, it will be mandatory for all students to open an Academic Bank of Credit (ABC) account at abc.gov.in to get admission in universities across the country. While the process of generating ABC IDs is on, many students are facing difficulties in the Aadhaar verification process. Recommended : Get important details about JNU Delhi. Taking stock of implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 at a meeting on Tuesday, the University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman M Jagadesh Kumar urged vice chancellors of central universities to ensure 100 percent registration on the ABC platform from the upcoming academic year. The ABC platform, While several VCs reported progress in students registration on abc.gov.in, many universities are facing delays due to Aadhar-related issues. Representatives of Central University of Kashmir, Central University of Karnataka, Guru Ghasidas University, Assam University, Central University of Gujarat, University of Allahabad among others flagged the same issue for slow progress in ABC student login generation. As per some of the university heads, the students are unable to register due to Aadhar not being linked to mobile phones.
