AD Ceuta vs Barcelona: Copa Del Rey Match Preview

Barcelona will be keen to keep up their domestic dominance when they face AD Ceuta in the Last 16 of the Copa Del Rey on Thursday. La Liga giants Barcelona will be flush with confidence following their Supercopa de Espana win over Real Madrid at the weekend and will be eager to face AD Ceuta in the Round of 16 of the Copa Del Rey. The third-tier side will be hoping to partake in a giant-killing of David vs Goliath proportions in front of their own fans at the Estadio Alfonso Murube. Barcelona are likely to make several changes to the side that started against Real Madrid on Sunday but will still go into the game as favourites. Xavi Hernandez tasted his first trophy as Barcelona manager at the weekend and will be keen to add to his tally this season. The Catalan has already won the trophy thrice as a player in Blaugrana colours and is no stranger to going all the way in the competition. Barcelona have won the Copa Del Rey 31 times, more than any other side in the history of Spanish football. It is in stark contrast to Ceuta, who have made it to the Last 16 for the first time in their 66-year-old history. Should they pull off the improbable against Barcelona, it is likely to be one of the biggest shocks in the competition’s history. The Catalan outfit eliminated another third-tier side, Intercity Sant Joan d’ Alacant in the previous round. The game ended 4-3 for Barcelona after extra time, a tad closer than one would have expected. It is fair to say that they will approach t...

Barcelona visits third-division club Ceuta in the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey. It’s Barcelona’s first match since it defeated Real Madrid 3-1 to win the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia for its first trophy since the departure of Lionel Messi in 2021. Xavi, who lifted his first trophy as Barcelona coach, will not count on defender Ronald Araújo, midfielder Frenkie de Jong and Memphis Depay, the Dutch forward who is expected to transfer to Atlético Madrid. Real Madrid visits Villarreal. Midfielder Luka Modric will be rested by coach Carlo Ancelotti. Second-place Manchester City can close the gap on Premier League leader Arsenal with a win against Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium. City plays twice before Arsenal hosts Manchester United on Sunday. The defending champion could cut the lead at the top to just two points with wins against Spurs on Thursday and Wolverhampton on Sunday, but City will have played two games more than Arsenal by then. Atalanta will be full of confidence in the Italian Cup against Spezia. Atalanta is coming off the back of an 8-2 victory over Salernitana in the league. However, Atalanta needed two late goals to draw 2-2 at Spezia when the two met in the league two weeks ago. The winner will face Cup holder Inter Milan in the quarterfinals. Juventus hosts Monza in another round-of-16 match with the winner taking on Lazio or Bologna, who also play Thursday.

In between, 20-year-old Ansu Fati added a superb solo effort and midfielder Franck Kessie powerfully headed home. Real Madrid also progressed to the last eight, staging a stunning second-half comeback to win 3-2 at Villarreal. Carlo Ancelotti's men had fallen 2-0 behind in the first half courtesy of goals from Etienne Capoue and Samuel Chukwueze. But the visitors responded in superb fashion, as Vinicius Jr and Eder Militao drew them level before Dani Ceballos netted the winner four minutes from time. Real are in the last 16 of the Champions League and travel to Liverpool in the first leg on 21 February. Meanwhile, Barca are aiming for a league and cup double and are three points clear of Real at the top of La Liga. Ceuta vs Barcelona, Copa del Rey: Final Score 0

Barcelona are safely through to the Copa del Rey quarterfinals and there was no drama against a lower level side this time as the Catalans dominated AD Ceuta from the Third Division and won 5-0 at the Alfonso Murube Stadium on Thursday night’s Round of 16 tie. The Catalans made a slow start but were never tested by the hosts, and applied enough pressure in the second half to get the goals and cruise to the next round. FIRST HALF The first 30 minutes of the game were, to put it nicely, straight trash. Ceuta were very clearly a team lacking any real talent and were playing on pure adrenaline and intensity, trying to move the ball up the pitch and create chances on crosses and set pieces while defending as hard as they could to not give Barça any spaces. Barça on the other hand were playing on first gear, moving the ball very slowly with static players unwilling to make runs in behind the Ceuta defense. The pace was horribly slow, and neither team came close to scoring a goal early on. As we very slowly approached halftime, however, Barça finally showed some signs of life in attack and began threatening with runs in behind and longer passes to catch Ceuta’s defense out of position. The Blaugrana were poor in the final third, with poor touches and bad decisions that killed promising moves, but they began looking like a team ready to score. And with four minutes left in the half, they did through the only player who actively tried something in the game: Raphinha received a pass...

But if the club is doing very well in the Copa del Rey, things are playing out very differently in the Primera Division RFEF, as they are sitting bottom in the 20th position with eight points from 19 outings, so a relegation back down to the fourth tier is a very real possibility is things don’t change dramatically. ¡A por un nuevo entrenamiento! 💪🙌🏋️‍♀️ 📸 Barcelona Meanwhile, Barcelona are traveling to Ceuta with lots of confidence after lifting their 14th Spanish Super Cup trophy.
