Retention

Reenlistment in the Department of the Air Force is not an inherent individual right for enlisted Airmen and Guardians. It is a privilege and confers an obligation to serve. Airmen and Guardians may be considered for reenlistment or extension if they meet eligibility requirements, have qualities essential for continued service, and can perform duty in a career field in which the Department has a specific need. Only the Airman’s or Guardian’s commander or civilian director’s decision selects or nonselects the service member for continued service. Airmen and Guardians non-selected for reenlistment will separate on their current date of separation and will not be extended for any reason other than appeal processing. The Career Job Reservation program is a Department of the Air Force tool used when needed to manage the number of First Term Airmen and Guardians allowed to reenlist into their current Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC) or Space Force Specialty Code (SFSC) CJR limitations are established to manage projected surpluses and shortages by skill. The CJR program is managed on a fiscal year basis. It implements the reenlistment limitation for the AFSC or SFSC projected to have surplus Airmen or Guardians; however, not all fiscal years will have limitations in specific specialty codes. Admissions Cycle Dates

AdmissionsCycle Staying onTrack The United States Air Force Academy admissions cycle helps students manage their applications efficiently. The process consists of pre-candidate and candidate phases. To get a general picture of important dates in the Academy’s annual admissions cycle, see below. March 1–December 31 Upon completion of the Pre-candidate Questionnaire, all pre-candidates will receive correspondence with guidance and next steps for the application process. U.S. Air Force Academy uses rolling deadlines whereby specific deadlines are posted on each applicant’s portal. All items must be completed by the deadline posted. December 1–January 15

Officer Promotion Boards

Where to Find Promotion Board Information: Air Reserve Personnel Center Memorandums (ARPCMs), which include Air Reserve Component (ARC) promotion board information such as Convening Notices and Promotion Releases, are posted on Promotion-related details are located on myPers under the “Air Reserve” or “Air National Guard” tab, as applicable (select “OFFICER”, then select “Promotion” on the left-page side). Information is updated regularly; please review before submitting a myPers inquiry. Notable items available on myPers include: • All recent ARPCMs (e.g. CY Board Schedules, Convening Notices, Promotion Releases [aka Public Release], etc.) for the grades of 1st Lt through Colonel • Recent Board Statuses and Information by Rank (current status of promotion results routing and announcements) • Knowledge regarding Promotion Orders, Pre and Post Board guidance, Resources (AFIs), and more Promotion eligible officers and servicing Military Personnel Flights (MPFs) should thoroughly review the ARPCMs prior to when the board convenes. Milestones: Specific dates are included in the Convening Notices for awareness and/or action. If followed, this will keep you and your unit on track for officer promotion boards. Pay particular attention to PRF due dates, MilPDS updates cutoff, and when letters to the board are due as these suspenses involve potentially significant effects if missed.
