Akkalkot Swami Samarth History, Timings, Darshan and Puja Akkalkot Swami Samarth History As per the Legend, Nrusimha Saraswati, an incarnation of Lord Dattatreya did penance for 150 years. He travelled extensively to China, Java, Sumatra, Japan and many other places. He enlightened disciples and showed the devotees with the spiritual path. Finally, he reached the Himalayas and continued penance for 250 years. During this time, his body was covered with ant-hill. A woodcutter unknowingly invoked Nrusimha Saraswati, who travelled many places in India and finally settled in Akkalkot for 24 years ie. 1854 AD – 1878 AD. Maharaj enters Samadhi on 30 Apr 1878 which ends the 600 years of incarnation. It is believed that Swami Samarth blesses devotees from Samadhi Mandir. There is a banyan tree outside the temple which is said to be the meditating place for Samarth Maharaj. This tree is worshipped with equal importance, believed that it posses spiritual powers. Siddheshwar Temple, Overview Siddheshwar Temple is Situated in the middle of a lake ahead of Bhuikot Fort, Solapur. This temple is sacred to Lord Siddheshwar, who is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. The temple is highly revered by the devotees as it is the place where Sri Siddheshwar attained Samadhi. The main temple complex has a beautiful sanctum sanctorum, which houses the idol of Siddheshwar. Also there are 68 Shivalingas in the main courtyard, which were installed by Lord Siddheshwar. History of this Temple According to history, the Siddheswar temple was built by a yogi and a devotee of Sri Mallikarjuna of Srisailam, Sri Siddharameswara. He built this temple and got 68 Shivlings built in the temple as per the instructions of his Guru. It is said that Sri Siddheswara, who is also considered to be the Six Prophet of Lingayat religion, believed that the birth of this saint brought prosperity to the city and the deity is able to bless the devotees. Swami Samarth Mandir Akkalkot – Guide Akkalkot is a town in Solapur and a major pilgrimage centre famous for Swami Samarth Maharaj. He was a saint of the 19 th century. The Swami Samarth Maharaj Mandir located here at Akkalkot also known as the Banyan Tree Swami Samarth Maharaj Temple, Akkalkot is a bit different from other temples. Here you can see the sacred banyan tree, under which Swamiji is said to have spent more than 20 years. Devotees consider him to be a form of Lord Dattatreya. He resided in different parts of India and finally settled at Akkalkot. Their ancestry and origins are obscure to the people. History of this Temple According to legend, when a follower asked him about his origin, he replied that he was born from a banyan tree. People considered him as the fourth form of Dattatreya. He was also considered an incarnation of Narasimha Saraswati. Swami Samarth once said that he originally appeared in the Kardali forest of Andhra Pradesh.
