New Movies and Shows on Amazon Prime Video (October 2022)

Gary Carr and Chloë Grace Moretz, The Peripheral Amazon Studios Sure you've heard of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, but have you heard of The Lordess of the VR Rig: The VR Rig of Awesomeness? Probably not, because it's actually called The Peripheral, Amazon Prime Video's new sci-fi series that premieres on Oct. 21. Chloë Grace Moretz stars as a woman playing around in virtual reality when she realizes the place she's visiting online is actually a future London and she's caught up in a conspiracy. It's a very Westworld-y concept — right down to Moretz's alternate Dolores Abernathy clothes (see above) — and counts Westworld's Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy among its executive producers. It's the next big series to come out this month, but it's not the only one! Below you'll find our picks for the best shows and movies to watch on Amazon Prime Video in October, as well as the full list of everything coming to Prime Video and Freevee, the free service that's accessible through Prime Video but doesn't require Prime membership. John Krasinski and Wendell Pierce, Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan Philippe Antonello/Prime Video Jack Ryan is a man who does things his own way. And that even applies to release dates. The anticipated third season of Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan comes to Amazon Prime Video on Dec. 21, which is a Wednesday. Prime Video's big releases always come out on Fridays! Jack, you rascal! Always lone wolfing it out there and proving everyone wrong. This show is gonna be so big for Prime Video that Amazon may consider releasing everything on Wednesdays, and then Jack will change things up and release Season 4 on a Tuesday or something. Jack Ryan is the biggest new release this month on Prime Video, but it's not the only one. Below you'll find our picks for the best shows and movies to watch on Amazon Prime Video in December, as well as the full list of everything coming to Prime Video and Freevee, the free service that's accessible through Prime Video but doesn't require Prime membership. New Prime Video movies: the best films to stream in June 2023

Interstellar is set in a future in which there's widespread famine and suffering. In order to save humanity, a group of astronauts are tasked with travelling through a wormhole near Saturn in a bold attempt to find a new home for humankind. They embark on a long and dangerous adventure that'll fill you with wonder and pull at your heartstrings. If you love sci-fi movies, you're going to want to watch this one. But it's also a drama about love, connection and the extreme lengths the best of us will go to in order to create a brighter future. Cate Blanchett is mesmerizing as fictional conductor Lydia Tár. (Image credit: Universal Pictures) Release date: June 6 Tár is a hard-hitting psychological drama that won big during awards season. What that means is this isn't a feel-good film, but one that we think most audiences will appreciate and admire for its ambition and fantastic cast. It follows the story of a conductor called Lydia Tár (played by Cate Blanchett), who is known all over the globe for her talent and intense passion for her music. However, she runs into several problems and must face accusations of misconduct. This leads to a gradual unravelling of the dizzying power she's built up over the years as well as her sanity. There are times when Tár is tense, more like a thriller than a drama. Then at others it feels deeply meditative, lingering on Lydia Tár so we can get a glimpse what might be under than impenetrable armour of an exterior. It goes without saying that ...

My favorite 7 new to Amazon Prime Video movies you need to watch this month

It's one of the key reasons why we rank Prime Video as one of the All of these movies could make a strong case for inclusion in our roundup of the best movies on Prime Video, so if you’re looking for something new to watch on Amazon’s streaming service this month, here are my top seven recommendations. (Image credit: Focus Features) Composer and classical music icon Lydia Tár (Cate Blanchett) is shattering every glass ceiling above her, but her methods are beginning to come under scrutiny as recordings of her classes go viral. Following a whisper campaign from those close to her, accusations of something worse begin to bubble to the surface. Impressive for how it doesn't quite take sides or reveal too much, Tár gives a compelling spin on the #MeToo stories we've seen and heard. Blanchett, though, is truly worthy of the Best Actress Oscar nomination she earned (though we won't complain that Michelle Yeoh won for Everything Everywhere All At Once). (Image credit: RGR Collection / Alamy Stock Photo) If you take yourself too seriously, you'll eventually find that friend you don't know you need, the one who teaches you how to laugh at yourself. Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg) is just one of these Type A folks who holds himself to strong standards, and won't stop pushing himself. In an attempt to stop Angel from being so serious, he's reassigned to the quiet town of Sandford in Gloucestershire — where crime is nil and Village of the Year awards are expected. There, he has to hunt fo...

The 7 Best New Movies on Amazon Prime Video in June 2023

“Crazy Rich Asians” (2016) Warner Bros. Adapted from Kevin Kwan’s book, “Crazy Rich Asians” took big strides for the AAPI community when it hit theaters in 2016. With an all-star cast of Constance Wu, Gemma Chan, Henry Golding, Michelle Yeoh, Awkwafina, Harry Shum Jr., Ken Jeong, Nico Santos and more the film took representation to a whole new level. This rom-com provides an emotional rollercoaster of a viewing experience as it follows a Chinese-American professor (Wu) who travels to Singamore to meet her boyfriend’s (Golding) family, only to discover they’re one of the richest families in the country. “Interstellar” (2014) Paramount Pictures Matthew McConaughey’s Joseph Cooper gets tested in many ways in this galactic film from director Christopher Nolan. After getting recruited to find a viable habitat on a new planet since Earth is no longer sustainable, Cooper sets off with astronaut Brand (Anne Hathaway) to travel through a wormhole, leaving behind his kids Murph (Mackenzie Foy, Jessica Chastain) and Tom (Timothée Chalamet, Casey Affleck). Themes of time, love and sacrifice abound in this decades-spanning (and eye-popping) adventure. “Love, Rosie” (2014) Lionsgate/Constantin Film Before “Daisy Jones & the Six” and “Emily in Paris,” Sam Claflin and Lily Collins starred in the romantic comedy “Love, Rosie.” Claflin’s “Daisy Jones” co-star Suki Waterhouse plays his character Alex’s distracting love interest Bethany. Talk about a ‘Will They? Won’t They?’ situation — the s...

Prime Video If you’re looking to watch something brand new and you like rom-coms, “Something From Tiffany’s” may be right up your alley. Based on the book of the same name by Melissa Hill and produced by Reese Witherspoon, the New York City holidays-set film stars Zoey Deutch as a woman who’s in a committed relationship that can best be described as “happy enough” and Kendrick Sampson as a man in the picture perfection relationship with his soon-to-be fiancé. But when his engagement ring somehow ends up in the hands of Deutch’s character instead, a series of twists and turns (of fate, no less) abound that put them on a path towards one another. Paramount Pictures If you’re in the mood for a classic, 1973’s road trip comedy “Paper Moon” holds up tremendously well. Directed by Peter Bogdanovich, the film takes place during the Great Depression and stars real-life father and daughter Ryan and Tatum O’Neal as a con man and orphan who team up when the con man agrees to take the young girl from Gotham, Kansas to St. Joseph, Missouri. Heartwarming, hilarious and rich in character, this is a must-see. Superbad Sony Pictures Releasing “Superbad” was pivotal to the comedy boom of the 2000s, and still largely holds up thanks to a terrific pair of performances from Jonah Hill and Michael Cera and an emotional undercurrent that grounds this raunchy coming-of-age tale. Hill and Cera play high school seniors looking to score some booze for a cool kids party...
