The statue. Pic/News18 The statue has been constructed on a 50-foot pedestal that is shaped like the Indian Parliament. Though the project was initiated by Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao in 2016, the majority of the work was completed this year. Speaking to News18, Anil Sutar, the sculptor, said: “The bronze for the statue has been sourced from Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. We have designed statues of the Father of the Constitution at various places like Lucknow and Noida. In fact, we are also going to design another statue in the US." Though this is the tallest Ambedkar statue in India right now, Sutar informs that a 350-foot-tall statue is in the works in Mumbai. Around 250 workers toiled for a month to build the statue that is going to be unveiled in Hyderabad. Sutar has also designed the 597-foot Statue of Unity in Gujarat. He explained that bronze is used for cladding these statues as it has a high shelf life. The statue was then given a coat of polyurethane paint to further protect it from the elements. Anil Sutar now helms the company Ram Sutar Fine Art, which was started by his father. The 98-year-old senior sculptor was also actively involved in the project in Hyderabad. Spread across 11 acres, the statue has been built at a cost of Rs 146 crore. Read all the

Ambedkar statue unveiling a proud moment for entire country, says KCR

By Express News Service HYDERABAD: The 125-ft statue of Dr BR Ambedkar, considered the tallest in the country, will be unveiled here on Friday. The bronze statue of the architect of the Indian Constitution has been installed near the Secretariat, opposite the Buddha statue, and beside the Telangana Martyrs memorial. On April 14, 2016, the 125th birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had announced that a 125-ft tall statue will be installed in the city in memory of the great leader. It may be recalled that four decades ago, as an MLA Chandrasekhar Rao set up a study centre — Centre for Subaltern Studies — with the intention of studying the status of Dalits in the country in comparison with the other oppressed groups of the world. After the CM’s announcement in 2016, the State government constituted a technical committee for collecting the relevant information for installing the statue. Another committee under the chairmanship of then Minister K Srihari too was formed. After several rounds of discussions, the circular base option was finalised to install the statue. Later, consultants M/s Design Associates submitted a detailed estimate for Rs 146.50 crore. Friday’s statue unveiling ceremony will be attended by several leaders and dignitaries, including Prakash Ambedkar, the grandson of BR Ambedkar. According to officials, a crane will be used to remove the huge curtain on the statue of BR Ambedkar and decorate it with a giant flower garland. ...

Premium In Hyderabad, 125-foot-tall bronze statue of Dr B R Ambedkar to be unveiled on April 14 Because the sculpture is so big, we want to make it as detailed as possible so that people can appreciate even the stitching on Dr Ambedkar’s shoes, shoe laces, the texture of the cloth and most importantly facial expression, says sculptor Anil Ram Sutar. Beige sandstone from Rajasthan cut into shapes make for the outer layer of a massive circular building and commuters on Hyderabad’s NTR Marg now cannot miss an under-construction sculpture over it that resembles one of the most familiar poses in the country. As a 450-tonne capacity crane lifts huge sheets of bronze to the top, parts of the book with ‘India’ written on it emerge clearer from the statue’s left hand. “In bronze, it is going to be the original Constitution of India in Babasaheb’s left hand with all its minute details,” a worker at the site said. (Express Photo by Rahul V Pisharody) One of the flagship projects of the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government and a pet project of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, a giant 125-foot-tall statue of Dr B R Ambedkar standing tall in his signature pose atop the country’s parliament house is slowly coming to life. Taking the overall height to 175 feet, the circular edifice resembling the parliament will also house a museum, library and an audio-visual hall across a 20,000 sq ft area to commemorate the life and times of the chief architect of the Indian Constitution. ...
