So, what’s actually new in this release compared to Beta 2? Well, not much. The builds for Pixel devices have the new lock screen customization feature that was discussed at Google I/O, and some new animations. There’s also a pile of bug fixes, including ones for Wi-Fi calling, power consumption, Android Auto, Health Connect, and much more.

For example, that’s how you get Of course, when Android 14 launches, it won’t be known as “Android Upside Down Cake.” Google discontinued using dessert names to refer to its phone OS with the release of Android 10 in 2019. Prior to the open beta, Google released two developer previews for Android 14 — one in February and another in March. Looking at the timeline above, three additional beta updates will follow from there: Beta 3 in June and Betas 4 and 5 in July. Google has the final public release of Android 14 planned sometime shortly after that, likely in August or September. Andrew Martonik/Digital Trends Google’s Pixel devices are the first to get the Android 14 beta, so naturally, they’ll also be among the first for the general release. Android 14 launch: Potential release timeframe, features, and more

After launching Android 13 in the latter portion of 2022, we’re solely focused on the next iteration. Based on previous roadmaps, the developer preview launch phase for Android 14 could be right around the corner. So when could we see the full release? A lot of what we’re speculating is by examining previous timelines. We’re in no illusion, like last year, that Google could easily rip up the playbook and launch Android 14 at any time over the next 10 months. There are a few signposts that subtly indicate a timeframe in which we could see the Android 14 launch. It’s also worth noting that we’re talking about the stable operating system builds that we’ll see running on the reinvigorated Pixel series not the AOSP version of Android 14. Let’s start with some known quantities. Firstly, the internal dessert codename is “Upside Down Cake.” This was found courtesy of When could we see Android 14 Developer Preview? Thanks to In years gone by, the Android developer preview phase has regularly started in February. That has been adhered to for a few years now, and we don’t expect that to change with Android 14. Acting as the earliest “launch” point for Android 14, this is strictly aimed at app and software developers. There’s nothing stopping you from flashing the developer preview on your own Pixel. We wouldn’t recommend it unless you have a backup phone to use just in case your encounter problems. Google Pay and other apps requiring CTS check passes are often unavailable or unreliab...

Android 14: news, rumors, expectations

As Android 13 was mostly a quality-of-life software update that ironed out many kinks and improved the overall experience, we initially expected that Android 14 could shake things up and add tons of new features and functionalities, similarly to what Android 12 did back in 2021. However, judging from the very first preview, Android 14 could be more of the same, which is not explicitly a bad thing. Android 14 will be released to the wide Android public in August 2023. This is an official release date timeline that was revealed alongside Android 14's very first developer preview, and as it comes straight from the horse's mouth, one can take it for granted. It also perfectly falls in line with previous Android releases which were all released to the Pixel lineup in August, so the stars for Android 14's August release are aligning rather nicely. Currently, as of March 2023, Android 14 exists as a developer-oriented beta that's not intended for regular people and shouldn't be used as a daily driver on a personal device. A user-friendly public beta with more user-centric features is coming in April, and a steady stream of beta updates will roll out to Pixel phones following up to the official release of Android 14 this very August. Although Android 10 officially ceased the practice to ...
