Dehradun: An inconsolable Soni Devi, the mother of the 19-year-old receptionist allegedly murdered by a BJP leader’s son in Uttarakhand, on Monday said she was not allowed to look at her daughter’s face one last time before she was “hurriedly” cremated by the authorities in the dead of the night. “They have done injustice to a mother. What was the hurry to conduct her last rites at night? Why couldn’t they have waited for one more day?” Soni said as many gathered at the family’s native village Shrikot to offer their condolence. Ankita Bhandari’s body was found in the Cheela canal close to Rishikesh on September 24, six days after her parents found her missing from her room. She was killed allegedly by her employer. By Agencies PAURI: In a major development in the Ankita Bhandari murder case, the family of the 19-year-old woman receptionist who was killed in Uttarakhand allegedly by her employer refused on Sunday to conduct her last rites until they get the final postmortem details, even as a preliminary report said she died due to drowning. The draft report released by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Rishikesh, also said antemortem injuries (injuries before death) have been found on Ankita Bhandari's body, suggestive of a blunt force trauma. However, she died of drowning, said the preliminary report. Bhandari's body was recovered from the Cheela canal close to Rishikesh early on Saturday, six days after her parents found her missing from her room. The postmortem was conducted by a four-member team of doctors at AIIMS on Saturday. The details of injuries and other findings will be given in the final report, said the draft. No evidence of rape was found in the post-mortem exam, they added. However, injury marks were found on Ankita’s fingers, hands and back, the sources further said. The death of Ankita Bhandari, which is now being probed as a case of murder, triggered massive outrage online and offline. The alleged involvement of a BJP leader’s son has added to the fury of the people. The BJP has already suspended its leader Vinod Arya, whose son Pulkit is the owner of the resort where Ankita worked.
