Say you’re in the market for a new Mac, and you want to spend $1299. You’ve got two choices. Pick your poison – only one is actual poison. Maybe not actual poison, but, well, we’ll get to that. $1299 is the starting price for The 13-inch M2 MacBook Air is a great formula; bringing the thin and light design to a laptop with more screen real estate has long been a dream of mine. Pro laptops are necessarily thicker and heavier. Larger displays are bigger, but that doesn’t have to mean thick and heavy. The 15-inch M2 MacBook Air is the first Mac to fully realize that. Prior to the M2 Air, the last 15-inch laptop from Apple was the MacBook Pro with Touch Bar. It weighed 4.04 pounds compared to the 15-inch MacBook Air at 3.3 pounds. Impressive! Compare the 15-inch Air to the 16-inch Pro and the weight difference really kicks in: The Air is a full 1.5 pounds lighter than the M2 Max Pro at 4.8 pounds. The 15-inch Air is also 53 mm thinner than the 16-inch Pro. Is the 15-inch MacBook Air worthy of its title? The numbers say so. It also happens to be a remarkable value, and you don’t have to compare it to the $2500 16-inch MacBook Pro to see that. In addition to the new 15-inch MacBook Air, Apple sells another machine today for $1299. Ah, yes, the beloved ( sarcasm) 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar! The reason for its existence is widely believed to be because businesses feel better about buying a Pro than an Air, and this Pro-in-name-only MacBook is $700 cheaper than the 14-inch ...

Apple MacBook Air (M2, 2022) : A stunning redesign that comes at a cost

The MacBook Air (M2, 2022) is Apple’s follow-up to the best laptop it ever made, and while it comes close, it doesn’t quite beat the previous model. It’s got a fantastic design, bigger screen and incredibly long battery life, but also a much higher price tag. Think of it more as a replacement for the 13-inch MacBook Pro, and it starts to make a lot more sense. Here is the MacBook Air (M2, 2022) configuration sent to TechRadar for review: CPU: Apple M2 (8-core) Graphics: Integrated 10-core GPU RAM: 16GB Unified LPDDR5 Screen: 13.6-inch, 2,560 x 1,664 Liquid Retina display (backlit LED, IPS, 500 nits brightness, wide color P3 gamut) Storage: 1TB SSD Ports: 2x Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C), 3.5mm headphone jack, MagSafe 3 charging port Connectivity: Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0 Camera: 1080p FaceTime HD webcam Weight: 2.7 pounds (1.24kg) Size: 11.97 x 8.46 x 0.44 inches (30.41 x 21.5 x 1.13cm; W x D x H) While writing this MacBook Air (M2, 2022) review, I was struck by a thought: what if Apple had actually originally planned for this to have been a redesigned MacBook Pro 13-inch with an M2 chip? (Image credit: Apple) • Apple MacBook Air M2 2022 (13.6-inch 256GB) at Amazon for $1,099 Having a redesigned MacBook Pro, alongside a MacBook Air with the same old design (but new M2 chip and cheaper price), would have made a lot of sense – but Apple did the opposite. So, we have a redesigned MacBook Air that’s now more expensive, and a MacBook Pro 13-inch with the same old design. I can’t help but...

Apple MacBook Air 15

Prior to the Air 15, if you wanted a MacBook with an appreciably larger display, you’d have to pay a $1,000 premium and get a thicker, much heavier computer. But if you now spec the 13-inch and 15-inch devices identically, the larger one commands around a $100 premium. The chip is not different; the chassis is different. Well, is it? Using this device on a day-to-day basis does not feel particularly different from using the 13-inch Air. The keyboard and touchpad and trusty webcam notch are all the same. The biggest difference to report — and this will come as no surprise — is the screen. The 15.3-inch panel is large, especially with its slightly taller than 16:10 aspect ratio. It affords, frankly, much more space than I would ever know how to take full advantage of. I can comfortably use two windows side by side; on the 13-inch Air, I might have to zoom out a notch or two. Big screen devotees, you’ll be thrilled. The second big difference is the weight. The 13-inch Air is 2.7 pounds, and the 15-inch Air is 3.3 pounds. There is just over half a pound of difference, and it is noticeable. While the 15-inch Air is a world lighter than its larger 16-inch M2 Pro cousins, it is significantly chunkier than the 13-inch Air. Look, you are all going to make fun of me for this, and I deserve it. But the Air is an ultraportable machine, and that has been its shtick since it launched. The 15-inch Air is not an ultraportable machine in the same way. Just for some context, it is only a te...

MacBook Air M2 (2022) review

With the new MacBook Air M2 (from $1,199, tested at $1,899), Apple paired an even faster M2 chip with a much sleeker design. Carrying this 2.7-pound notebook around and using it, this is a laptop that reminds me of the iconic original Air that Steve Jobs pulled out of a manilla envelope all those years ago. As you’ll see in my full MacBook Air M2 review, the new Air has a great combination of portability, performance, display quality and overall comfort.
