The Apple Watch 8 is one of the best smartwatches around, mostly because the Apple Watch has been getting it right since the first model. However, the Watch 8 is the smallest update we’ve ever seen to the series, with only the temperature sensor and crash detection being offered as upgrades over the Watch 7 – the new software is good and offers some nice updates, but that’s coming to many older models. Nothing has impressed us hugely about the latest model – given you can still buy new Watch 7 (or even Watch 6) units for less, we’d be more inclined to point you towards them. The Watch 8 is still the smartwatch to get if you want a good, up-to-date timepiece to go with your iPhone – but it’s definitely not going to outshine the Watch Ultra. Temperature-sensing wearables have been a trend these past few years, from the Fitbit Senseto the Oura Ring, Amazon's Halo bandand Samsung's Galaxy Watch 5. A few weeks ago, I got sick and a little ringon my finger let me know my temperature was elevated. So, in my experience, temperature reading isn't just another check-the-box feature.
