Asus Zenfone 9 review

We had high hopes when we found out that the Zenfone 9 combines the Oppo Find X5 primary camera sensor with gimbal stabilization, but the system doesn't quite live up to its potential. While you can get brilliant RAW photos from it, and good photos in auto mode, they're not best-in-class. On the plus, the Zenfone's secondary cameras and video capture are, and the phone's performance and battery life also hit the mark. Compact without many discernable drawbacks on paper, the camera is just the start of the Zenfone 9’s flagship spec sheet. It features impressive internals, a cracking screen, a novel design, stereo speakers, and a nifty new Smart Key– a gesture-sensitive power button. The camera, however, is the main draw for us. It’s the first time we’ve seen the 50MP Sony IMX766 – a capable sensor used in the (Image credit: Basil Kronfli / Digital Camera World) In pictures, the Zenfone 9 probably looks like any other phone from the front, but it isn't – it's smaller. This dinky footprint is made possible by its 5.9-inch screen, which makes for comfortable use one-handed. The phone's box is packed with a fast charger (30W) and a case, which is hard plastic and feels solid, unlike many soft, bendy cases that ship with many phones today. With or without the case, the Zenfone 9 is a thick phone, measuring around 9.1mm – chunkier than even the massive Framed by a flat, metal band around the sides, top, and bottom, the right side of the Zenfone 9 features power and volume buttons...

Asus sets the Zenfone 10 launch date in stone

What you need to know • Asus has confirmed that it will launch the next Zenfone on June 29. • The Zenfone 10 will look slightly different from its predecessor at least in terms of the front panel, with a thinner chin. • Asus' forthcoming handset is expected to have flagship-level specs, including a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. Asus' next Zenfone model is just around the corner, as the company has just teased the Zenfone 10 and confirmed its launch date. According to an Instagram post from Asus Taiwan, the next-generation phone will make its debut on June 29 at 9 p.m. local time (9 a.m. ET). The post doesn't shy away from revealing the handset's front design in all its glory, showing off a thinner chin than its predecessor. Meanwhile, the selfie snapper's position in the top-left corner is the same as before. Asus also teases a few features coming with the Zenfone 10 that are not available on the current model. One of the most notable elements of the teaser is a charging dock, which may allude to wireless charging capabilities. For what it's worth, the The Zenfone 9 earned accolades last year for being compact while offering flagship-level specs, such as a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. In the words of our own Harish Jonnalagadda, the phone's "diminutive design makes it ideal for one-handed use, and it has the same caliber of hardware as $1,000 flagships." It remains unclear whether the Zenfone 10 will follow the same route, but it's pretty safe to assume that it will offer a comp...

Asus Zenfone 10 coming June 29

While it’s not a major player, Asus makes some solid Android smartphones and, this week, the company has confirmed that the Zenfone 10 is right around the corner. In an Instagram It reminds us of Google’s Pixel 5. Also shown in the image are headphones, a camera, a gimbal, and a wireless charging pad. This could all be meant to hint at wireless charging support, a camera with enhanced stabilization – Beyond that, Asus directly confirms a launch on June 29, with the event to be streamed live on YouTube. Notably, that’ll be quite a week for new smartphones, with Asus preparing its launch for the Friday right after The Zenfone 9 stood out last year for its very compact size and solid spec sheet that included the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. It stands to reason this new model will take the same route of being a smaller device with flagship-tier specs, but in any case, it’s certainly one to look forward to.

Conclusion If you like big phones or even the normal sized ones of today, the Asus Zenfone 9 is definitely not for you. Yes it's more pocketable, and yes, it's much easier to grip, but the screen is significantly smaller. You may get used to that in time (it took this reviewer almost a week), but here's the thing - the second you interact with a bigger phone again, you'll never want to go back to the Zenfone. On the other hand, if you're one of those incredibly active people in comment sections across the internet where you keep saying how all you want is a proper high-end flagship in a small size, then you should definitely be looking at the Zenfone 9. And let's face it, you probably have already - it's not like you're spoilt for choice when it comes to these specific requirements. Hopefully, you even bought one (or a Galaxy S22), to prove to phone makers and reviewers alike that there's still a market for smaller devices and they should keep making them and reviewing them, respectively. For a while, they probably will. Asus is using size as a main differentiating factor for the Zenfone 9, as it's basically given up on competing head-to-head with Samsung and the Chinese companies in the realm of normally sized mainstream flagships. They are niche hunting, with ROG gaming phones on one hand, and the diminutive Zenfone on the other. Is this strategy successful? That depends on your definition of the word. Sales-wise, obviously not. But sales numbers aren't always everything...
