T20 World Cup LIVE: New Zealand v Australia

I don't think this will have any bearing on the Ashes but I think it will make a big difference to boys and girls in Australia and will hopefully bring some youth into the game. It is nice to see a team with such a rich pedigree in terms of players, who a horrible record as a team, come out and win a T20 World Cup. More from Aaron Finch: "David Warner has been outstanding. I can't believe that people wrote him off a few weeks ago and said he was done. That is when he plays his best cricket - it was almost like poking the bear. He was outstanding. "What a tournament Adam Zampa had too - he was player of the tournament for me. He controlled the innings for us and took wickets. He is a super player. "What a way for Mitch Marsh to start his innings today. He came out and put so much pressure on New Zealand from the start. He was outstanding."

Australia vs New Zealand T20 World Cup result: Highlights and analysis as Kiwis run riot in SCG demolition job

New Zealand got their 2022 T20 World Cup campaign off to the perfect start, beating host nation Australia in dominant fashion. A stunning batting performance saw the Kiwis score 200 runs, a total that Australia never threatened to come close to. The Sporting News had all the live coverage from Saturday night's clash. MORE: Finn Allen goes hard and fast Overall, it was a brilliant batting effort from New Zealand, but Finn Allen's performance in the early stages stole the show. Opening for the Kiwis, he scored a stupendous 42 runs off 16 balls, before being dismissed just fours overs into the inning. The 23-year-old showed no fear at the crease, hitting five fours and three sixes in what was a blistering showing. Brilliance from Conway Arguably even more impressive than Allen's explosive knock was Devon Conway's performance. Whilst his strike rate (158.62) was considerably less than Allen's (262.5), he led the way for New Zealand throughout their entire inning. Finishing up at 92 not out, there wasn't much to criticise about the left-hander's performance. He was comfortable whilst facing both fast and spin bowlers, and Australia ultimately couldn't find a way to stop him. Australia crumbles in home opener It was far from an ideal start to the 2022 tournament for Australia, who now face a steep challenge to retain their title on home soil. An unfortunate and freakish dismissal of David Warner saw the home side get off to a bad start before the wickets kept falling. A new batt...

Australia vs New Zealand men's T20 World Cup final blog from Dubai

One to remember for all of us who chose to forgo the sleep! We have been rewarded with a famous Australian victory, as our men's team conquers the last remaining frontier of international cricket. The T20 World Cup is in Australia's hands, thanks to a complete squad effort over the course of the tournament. The final was the tournament in microcosm, every player combining to play their roles with a few standout performances along the way. We'll have plenty more coverage coming today in the wash up to this win, and then of course it's full steam ahead for a summer of Ashes cricket. The blogs will be everpresent, so be sure to join me and the team then. Thanks for your company and I'll see you then! Be honest? I sure didn't, and I did not see a single person suggest Australia could or would win this World Cup before the tournament, or even halfway through the tournament. This has been an Australian team that has embraced each other and embraced their own unique place within the whole to do something pretty special. It's special for Justin Langer and for so many of these players who have been maligned throughout their careers. Not least Mitch Marsh, who has quietly become a key cog in this team and one of the best number three batters in world T20 cricket. He was exceptional tonight. 19th over - Southee again FOUR RUNS! Marsh swings as hard as he physically can and bludgeons one down the ground, dodging the diving Neesham and finding the fence. Australia can taste it now! A s...

After all, New Zealand are ranked fourth in the world and Australia sixth — it's not like either are no-hopers. Both have plenty of top players in good form at each end of the order. And in fact, both play in a similar way, with hard-hitting, fast-starting openers followed by middle orders that can either be explosive or self-destructive. In the two semi-finals we got the explosive version, with New Zealand's Jimmy Neesham and Australia's Matthew Wade rescuing what looked like lost causes after good starts from openers Daryl Mitchell and David Warner respectively. On the bowling side, each team is based around a trio of pace bowlers backed up by an in-form spinner; for New Zealand that's Trent Boult, Tim Southee and Adam Milne with Ish Sodhi the spinner, while the Aussies have Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and Adam Zampa. So, who are the favorites here? Well New Zealand would be most people's pick, but they have to contend with the absence of wicketkeeper-batsman Devon Conway, who broke a bone in his hand in the semi-final. Regular 'keeper Tim Seifert returns in his place. Australia have won the toss and will bowl — which gives them a massive advantage, with dew l...
