Swachh Badminton India welcomes BAI's major steps to stop age frauds and fudging

JAIPUR: The Badminton Association of India (BAI) announced sweeping changes in the age verification process this week. The new SOP for ID registration, ID verification and penal codes for age manipulation have been introduced. These have been made to tackle the menace of age frauds especially in the junior age category tournaments across the country. The BAI has recently taken a significant step towards eradicating age fraud and falsification in registered players' records with the introduction of the Voluntary Age Rectification Scheme (VARS). This proactive initiative aims to rectify any discrepancies in age records and ensure fair competition in the sport. The parents' voluntary organization SBI (Swachh Badminton India) in a statement here on Wednesday have welcomed these changes. "Swachh The statement further called out "We welcome the stringent diligence process designed in the new BAI SOP for registration and the verification of existing BAI ID. At the same time, we also support the Voluntary Age Rectification Scheme (VARS) announced which will give fair chances to players, who have manipulated age and have been competing and winning unfairly in the past, to correct their age." Badminton Association of India Calls Players for Trials to Pick Asian Games Team

The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has decided to conduct a selection trial from May 4 to 7 to pick the team for the upcoming Asian Games. The Asian Games, which was originally scheduled for September last year, will be held in Hangzhou, China from September 23 to October 8 this year. According to the circular issued to all the affiliated state associations, the trials will be conducted at Jwala Gutta Academy of Excellence in Telangana. Double Olympic medallist PV Sindhu (World No. 11), HS Prannoy (world no. 9), men’s pairing of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy (World No. 6) and women’s combination of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand (world no. 19) have been selected directly for the Asian Games “based on their placing in the BWF Top 20 ranking list as on April 18." World championships silver and bronze medallists Kidambi Srikanth (World No. 23) and Commonwealth Games champion Lakshya Sen (World No. 24), Orleans Masters Super 300 winner Priyanshu Rajawat, national champion Mithun Manjunath and Tokyo Olympian B Sai Praneeth are among the nine men’s singles players, who will have to fight it out in the trials. BAI Announces Squad For Badminton Asia Junior Championships

The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has announced the Indian junior squad for the Badminton Asia Junior Championships 2023. The continental championships will take place in Yogyakarta, Indonesia from July 7 to 16. Tara Shah and Ayush Shetty are among the key participants in the team. Tara Shah has demonstrated prowess in the girls' singles section, capturing attention with her skilful play and determination. Currently ranked 7th in the girls' singles category in the BWF rankings, Tara Shah is a force to be reckoned with. Her performance and world ranking further solidified her position as a key player in the team, according to a release. Ayush Shetty also secured his spot in the boys' singles category. With the current world ranking of 20 in men's singles in the BWF rankings and an impressive second position in the BAI rankings, Ayush brings a wealth of experience to the team. BAI president Himanta Biswa Sarma elected to BWF Council

File Photo of Himanta Biswa.(ANI) Sarma, who is also the Vice President of Badminton Asia, got 236 votes in his favour as the 20 council members were elected from 31 contestants at the virtual AGM and Council election of Badminton World Federation (BWF). "I am thankful to all the member nations for voting in my favour and I take this opportunity to congratulate the BWF President as well as my fellow Council Members on their appointment," Sarma said after his election. "It is my aim to take Indian badminton to the highest level globally and to establish the country as the badminton powerhouse," he added. BWF President Paul-Erik Hoyer was re-elected unopposed, so were Deputy President Khunying Patama of Thailand and Vice President Paul Kurzo of Switzerland. BAI was represented by President Sarma and Adviser VK Verma along with General Secretary Ajay K Singhania and Omar Rashid as observers during the meeting.

The decision was taken on Monday during the Executive Council (EC) meeting, presided over by BAI President Himanta Biswa Sarma. The cash incentives will be distributed among the 32 state associations with each receiving a sum of Rs 5 lakh for the development and promotion of the sport in the grassroots level. “This financial assistance to state associations is the beginning of our vision of making all states self-sustaining in the longer run. It will help them promote and develop badminton in their region more assiduously,” Sarma said. India have become a major force in world badminton with P V Sindhu emerging as the face with silver medals in all the major events, including 2016 Rio Olympics, World Championship (2017 and 2018), Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.
