Dali Ancient Town of the Bai The Bai are an ethnic group with a long and colorful history and tradition who live mostly in Yunnan. Unlike many other ethnic groups, they have long been sophisticated about business, education, and trade and built large complex ancient towns with advanced technology for their times. The word bai means white, and they like the color very much and often wear white clothes. Their preference might have something to do with their origins 1,000 years ago as explained below.
