Adani Group announces help for children of Odisha train crash victims: 'Will fund school education'

The Adani Group will fund the school education of those who have lost their parents in the tragic train accident in Odisha's Balasore, the conglomerate's chairman Gautam Adani announced on Sunday. "We all are deeply distressed by the Orissa train accident," Adani said in a tweet. "We have decided that the Adani group will take the responsibility of the school education of the innocent people who have lost their parents in this accident." Around 10-12 coaches of the Chennai-bound Coromandel Express derailed when it collided with a goods train and fell on an adjacent track near Balasore. Another train from Yeswanthpur to Howrah then collided into the deralied coaches of the Coromandel Express. Odisha train accident: As many as 275 people were killed and over 1,175 injured in an accident on Friday, June 2, after an accident involving three trains. The horrific accident happened when the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, headed towards Chennai, derailed. It collided with a goods train on the adjacent track, causing the rear carriage of the Coromandel Express to veer off onto the third track. The Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, coming from the opposite direction on the third track, rammed into the derailed coaches. "I remember a train accident when the Congress party was in power. Congress did not get up and say that the train crashed because of the fault of the British. Congress minister said, "It's my responsibility and I'm resigning". So this is the problem we have back home, we make excuses & not accept the reality," Rahul Gandhi said while addressing the Indiandiaspora in New York on Monday. Scores of bodies, covered by white sheets, lay on the ground near the tracks while locals and rescuers raced to free the hundreds of people trapped in the rail cars under the twisted metal and broken glass. Army soldiers and air force helicopters joined the effort in Odisha state. About 200 of the severely injured people were transferred to specialty hospitals in other cities in Odisha, said P.K. Jena, the state’s top administrative official. Another 200 were discharged after receiving medical care and the rest were being treated in local hospitals, he added. Scores of people also showed up to donate blood.
