Bengalureans paid nearly 14 crore in two days since 50 percent rebate on traffic fines announced

As per the data provided by the authorities, Rs 13,81,13,621 was collected as of Saturday evening and as many as 4,77,298 cases have been cleared. Nearly Rs 5.6 crore was collected on Friday and the amount went up to more than Rs 8 crore on Saturday. The offices are expected to continue to see a huge rush from Monday as well. "Outstanding traffic fines amount with 50 percent discount has been operationalized. Request all to please utilize this opportunity and pay all your pending traffic fines. You can view and pay fine at KarnatakaOne website, PayTM App or by visiting the nearest Traffic Police stations," the Bengaluru city traffic police announced.

To clear the fine within the rebate period, they need to pay the fine before February 11, but if they want to contest the fine, they would not be able to access the rebate on penalties. Some commuters are paying the fine without contesting it as they want to avail of the rebate. The move comes in the wake of a January 27 resolution by the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority to request the state transport department to facilitate “access to justice for all” with regard to traffic fines imposed by the state government across the cities in Karnataka. Based on the resolution, the state transport department sent a recommendation to the government to offer a 50 per cent discount on traffic fines in the state.

In good news for commuters in Karnataka, the state's traffic police department on Thursday decided to slash pending traffic violation fines by 50 per cent. Residents who have pending traffic challans can now pay half the amount incurred after discount in a one-time settlement. The offer is valid till February 11.
