Bangalore Electricity Bill: Hiked tariff from April being billed in June says Bescom

BENGALURU: After Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) revised power tariff on May 12, Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd (Bescom) on Sunday released a note on monthly electricity bills. Bescom MD Mahantesh Bilagi said that according to the KERC order, power tariff has been revised to an average 70 paise per unit for all household connections in the state, and the order was given retrospective effect from April 2023. Due to the revision, an enhanced average of 70 paise per unit will be collected in the June bill. Further, Bilagi said KERC has ordered fixation of tariff in two slabs. If consumption of electricity crosses 100 units, a consumer has to pay a flat Rs 7 per unit. Before the revision, there were three slabs: For consumption of the first 50 units of energy, the charge was Rs 4.15 per unit; for the next 50 units, it was Rs 5.6 per unit; for consumption beyond 100 units, the charge was Rs 7.15 a unit. KERC has also revised fixed charges: For 1 to 50 KW sanctioned load, fixed charge is Rs 110 and above 50 KW, it will be Rs 210. "The tariff revision order was put on hold because of the poll code of conduct. On May 12, 2023, the order was reiterated and implemented with retrospective effect from April 2023. Hence, we have been forced to implement this order and 70 paise per unit will be collected in the June bill with April arrears," Bilagi said.
