"How many times do I say the same thing? I spoke the truth, I stand by it. What do I have to do with whatever anyone says?..." said Chandrashekhar. Earlier, he said the famous epic poem Ramcharitmanas written by Goswami Tulsidas 'spreads hatred in society' and propagates discrimination against lower castes. The minister, who belongs to RJD, has refused to apologize. BJP demands legal action On Thursday, the Opposition leader in the Bihar Assembly, Vijay Sinha, called for filing an FIR against him. He also asked Yadav to render an apology for his comment and demanded that Tejashwi Yadav should clear his stand on this issue. Speaking to the media, Sinha said that there are provisions to register FIR under the relevant IPC sections of religious criticism and criticising God. "The way he has given the statement in the public domain, he is liable to face action under the IPC section of 295A. "The statement of Chandrashekhar Yadav has hurt the sentiments of crores of Hindu community who believe in Lord Ram. Tejashwi Yadav should also clarify his stand whether he is standing by him or not. In Bihar, RJD minister Chandra Shekhar's 'Tejasvi' tweet irks Nitish Kumar's JD(U)

Though RJD leader and deputy CM Tejashwi Prasad Yadav tried to downplay the issue saying everyone knew what 'Tejasvi' means, JD(U) leader Nikhil Mandal said government is formed in Bihar by whichever side Nitish Kumar is. JD(U) spokesperson Abhishek Jha also said CM Nitish had been working for Bihar and had revived the state. Jha said Tejashwi was 'ojaswi' and had been working with the CM as his deputy, making it clear that it is Nitish who has worked for the development of the state. Back on the recent controversy over the minister's remarks on Hindu epic Ramcharitmas inviting criticism from ally JD(U), Chandra Shekhar on Monday shared a news clip regarding the survey of government schools and gave a caption, "buniyadi sansadhan, uchit pathan, shikshit Bihar, Tejasvi Bihar." Analysts said he played with the word 'Tejasvi' to send a message that who is calling the shots in Bihar. Even JD(U) state president Umesh Kushwaha on Monday commented on the Ramcharitmanas row and stated that his party has full faith in the Constitution and respects all the religions and castes. This was almost similar to what Tejashwi said a day before. However, Kushwaha also added that they never 'compromise with basic principal' no matter whichever party they form an alliance with. When asked to comment on his minister's tweet, Tejashwi said everyone gives his opinion through tweets and it was not necessary to react. "Why can't Bihar be sikshit?" he asked about the word used in the minister's twee...

Bihar minister snubbed by own as he talks Ramcharitmanas in House again

A day after he defended his controversial statements on Ramcharitmanas amid opposition BJP’s walkout in the state assembly, Bihar’s education minister Chandrashekhar was Tuesday snubbed by the members of his own party RJD and ally JD-U, besides the Chair, when he started his speech in the legislative council with observations on the epic. (Santosh Kumar/HT Photo) Giving the government reply on the education department budget, the minister started off with his observations on Ramcharitmanas, citing from a copy he was carrying, and continued despite repeated interjections from Chairman Devesh Chandra Thakur, who asked him to stick to the subject. However, when the minister did not pay heed to Chair’s three interruptions, Thakur asked him to table his speech and proceeded further to end the day’s proceedings in the absence of BJP members, who had moved out in protest against suspension of an MLA in the assembly. “You are not speaking on the educational scenario or on the budget. The entire debate is on education, but you are speaking on something else. It cannot go on like this,” the Chair told the minister. Earlier, JD-U member Neeraj Kumar said legislature is not the place to discuss religious texts and it would be better if the minister sticks to the larger issue of how a poor state would be able to implement the new education policy, which is posing a challenge to the r...
