Nagar Nikay Chunav Bihar 2023: The counting of votes for 31 municipal bodies in Bihar is complete amid tight security arrangements, a state election commission official said. "Armed police personnel have been posted at 58 centres, where counting began at 8 am for the election results of ward councillors, mayors, and deputy mayors," he said. The polling took place in Patna, Buxar, Rohtas, Aurangabad, Vaishali, Nalanda, Nawada, Gopalganj, Muzaffarpur, East Champaran, West Champaran, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Kishanganj, Munger, Lakhisarai, Saharsa, Jamui, and Banka districts. The State Election Commission of Bihar used a facial recognition system (FRS) for the first time to confirm voters' identities. Thirty-one urban local bodies also include those 24 places where polls were not held in the last urban elections in December. The five-year term of the boards of the other seven municipal bodies will end this month. Besides, by-polls were held in seven wards in the urban local bodies where elected representatives had resigned in the last few months after the December elections. Bureaucratic reshuffle in Bihar: In a major bureaucratic reshuffle, the Bihar government transferred 15 senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers including the additional chief secretary (ACS) and principal secretary. Officers including those heading crucial education and home departments were assigned new postings in the reshuffle. ACS of Home Department transferred According to a notification issued by the general administration department (GAD) on Wednesday evening, 1990-batch IAS officer Chaitanya Prasad, who was holding the charge of Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of the state Home Department, has been transferred to the water resources department. Now, S Siddharth, who was principal secretary of the chief minister’s secretariat, has been made the ACS of the state Home Department, which is headed by the CM. Apart from his new assignment, Siddharth will also hold the additional charge of the Cabinet Secretariat Department till further orders. According to a notification issued by the General Administration Department (GAD) of the state government on Wednesday, KK Pathak, a 1990-batch IAS officer who was instrumental in framing the prohibition laws in 2016, has been made the ACS of the state Education Department.
