( During a press conference Tuesday, members of the city and the World Games announced closings across the area for the entire duration of the 10-day event. “This is Birmingham’s international moment and we are committed to a world-class experience,” Woodfin said. “That includes making this the safest event possible by protecting the people gathered at our venues while striving to minimize the inconvenience to our community.” This will be the largest sporting event to ever come to the Magic City. City officials say they have been in contact with businesses and residents in the area to notify them of the planned closings and secure perimeters. Specialty credentials will also be given to some residents to allow them to go through certain areas.
