Could Venkaiah Naidu Have Served the BJP Well as Presidential Candidate?

Vijayawada: With the announcement of Many believe Naidu, an old-timer of the BJP, could have been an ideal candidate to become the president given his long career in politics, his positioning as a southern face in national politics, his friendly ties cutting across party lines, his immense experience in governance and also his command over multiple languages. However, the trusted lieutenant of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L.K. Advani has failed to enjoy the same favour under Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, who heralded a generational shift in the party. Also read: Although he was made vice-president in 2017, after a long career in active politics, it is still seen by many – both in the BJP and outside – as removing an old-timer from the way of the Modi-Shah duo – under whom the BJP has completely transformed itself where the two alone call the shots. Venkaiah Naidu’s rise Venkaiah Naidu (73), a hardcore karyakarta (worker) of the Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS), gradually rose up through the ranks of the BJP. He became the southern face of a party that largely has its base in north India. From severing as a student leader of the BJP’s student wing, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), he went to occupy the position as the national president of his party between 2002 and 2004. Telangana Election 2023: BJP Shifts Focus On Telugu States

HYDERABAD: A month after the shock defeat in Karnataka, the BJP has started focusing on Telugu states with top guns of the party making a series of visits in preparation for the coming elections. A day after BJP president J.P. Nadda`s visit to Tirupati on Saturday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is arriving in Visakhapatnam on Sunday. The visit by two top BJP leaders in as many days is likely to set off a flurry of political activity for realignment in the run-up to next year`s elections. Political analysts say the visit by the BJP leaders may be a beginning of the saffron party`s efforts to test waters before getting into serious talks for alliance with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), the main opposition party in the state. After the humiliating defeat in 2019 elections, which they fought separately, TDP, BJP and Jana Sena Party (JSP) headed by actor politician Pawan Kalyan are keen to join hands to take on YSR Congress Party (YSRCP). The visits by Nadda and Amit Shah are seen as part of BJP`s efforts to reach out to masses and gain a foothold in the state. This is their first visit to Andhra Pradesh after the recent meeting with TDP president and former chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. Naidu had met Amit Shah and Nadda on June 3 in Delhi. They reportedly discussed TDP-JSP-BJP alliance for elections in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. This was Naidu`s first meeting with Shah after TDP pulled out of the BJP-led NDA in 2018 over the issue of special category status to An...

President Election 2022: BJP, Opposition Parties To Hold Crucial Meets For President Pick

New Delhi: Even as the opposition is yet to choose its candidate for the Presidential polls, the BJP will hold its parliamentary board meeting today where it's likely to finalise its pick for the elections to be held on July 18. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to join the meeting virtually and the BJP has already formed a 14-member management team to oversee the election. With just over a week left in the deadline for nominations, both sides are trying to zero in on candidates with popular support. The BJP had earlier decided to name its presidential candidate by the end of this week. The ruling party on its own has about 49% of the Electoral College and to elect the President, one needs to cross the 50% mark. Party president JP Nadda and Union Minister Rajnath Singh have been entrusted the overall responsibility of coordination with NDA as well as UPA allies and other non-NDA, non-UPA allies to cobble up support to cross the halfway mark. These two leaders have been reaching out to manyparties. The BJP also formed a sort of a 'crack team' which has many Union Ministers as well as senior functionaries who are also doing their own bit of coordination, speaking to various potential candidates. In typical BJP style, everything is hush and 'top secret'. The Prime Minister too is likely to attend the parliamentary board meeting. It is not yet known whether he will attend it in person or virtually. After the meeting, there will be consultations with the 'crack team' where...

BJP President Nadda says West Bengal, Punjab, Rajashtan govts deprive OBCs of their rights

BJP national president J. P. Nadda on Tuesday accused the governments in West Bengal, Punjab, Bihar and Rajasthan of depriving the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) of their legitimate rights, terming it a “huge conspiracy.” Mr. Nadda, who was addressing a press conference at Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh, accused the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress government of favouring Muslims. He said a report by the National Commission for Backward Classes pointed out that in West Bengal, Bihar, Rajasthan and Punjab, the constitutional rights of reservation given to the OBCs were being violated and they were being deprived of their legitimate rights. “They [the Opposition parties] claim to be benefactors of the OBCs, but are violating their right of reservation in jobs.” “In Bengal, Bihar, Rajasthan and Punjab, the Opposition parties that otherwise claim to be sympathisers of backward classes and favour caste census, these same people are violating the interests of the OBCs. This is a huge conspiracy,” the BJP chief said. Mr. Nadda alleged that the Mamata government was offering the OBC quota and their reservation in West Bengal to Muslims in an attempt to appease them. “..The benefit of 91.5% reservation in Bengal has been given to Muslims, while the OBCs and other people have been denied their rights… In Bengal, as many as 179 castes were included in the OBC category, and out of these 118 castes are those of the Muslim community. In this way, efforts are being made to give benefi...

Droupadi Murmu Ji. Her understanding of policy matters and compassionate nature will greatly benefit our country." On the personal front, Murmu met with a series of tragedies, having lost both her husband Shyam Charan Murmu and two sons. But if there is one thing that she never allowed to come between her loss in personal life and public duty and her sense of service for the country, it is life’s very many adversities.
