Blackberry 5G smartphone with physical keyboard officially confirmed for launch again

As it stands, there's next to nothing known about the upcoming 5G BlackBerry phone. Considering previous releases, however, a mid-range Qualcomm chipset can be expected. While concept renders of the phone already exist, there's little in the way of substantiating information on how exactly it'll look. We expect it to mostly keep the form factor of the I like tech, simple as. Half the time, you can catch me writing snarky sales copy. The rest of the time, I'm either keeping readers abreast with the latest happenings in the mobile tech world or watching football. I worked as both a journo and freelance content writer for a couple of years before joining the Notebookcheck team in 2017. Feel free to shoot me some questions on Twitter or Reddit if it so tickles thine fancy.

Is AphyOS the BlackBerry 10 successor we've all been waiting for?

I know, I know. With a headline like that the rest of this writeup better deliver or I'm going to get skewered in the comments. And I get it. In a world absolutely dominated by Apple's and Google's ecosystems, it seems daft to think anybody has a shot at creating an alternative mobile OS that would have any chance of succeeding. Especially true considering that so many others including Palm, BlackBerry and Microsoft tried … and ultimately failed. As want to believe. Heck, I'd even go a step further and say I want to invest. It's been a long time since I picked up a new piece of technology that got me this excited. Unlike my first experiences with webOS or BlackBerry 10 over a decade ago where it was futuristic swipe gestures that had me grinning ear to ear, it was a much different but equally compelling feeling that I was digging again — FREEDOM. My recent It's odd to think that we can be held captive by a handful of companies, but that's the reality of the modern BIG TECH world we live in. What Apostrophy aims to do is bring some much-needed choice back into the mobile OS game, and the way they are going about it is pretty damn clever. While the y instead of an e), here were my top three takeaways from the discussion. 1. AphyOS is subscription-based This is so crazy logical I'm surprised nobody has tried it yet. We live in a digital world where paying subscriptions is the norm. Think Netflix and Amazon Prime. Yet when it comes to our mobile OS we pay for those software fe...

Anyone still using Blackberry as a daily driver in 2023?

I still use my Passport as a daily driver. I’ve had this phone since 2015. Battery life sucks now, but she still does the basics (talk, text, web). I’m on T-Mobile and reception is okay (Much better before 5G). But all in all, I still love my phone. I use iOS for work/business and Blackberry for personal use. Also, my Leap and Z30 still work as well. There are a few still.... but just not many checking in very often on the site anymore. In the US T-Mobile is really the only option.... but only in markets where they haven't fully removed 3G. As they slow dismantle their 3G coverage your left only with whatever 2G there is. Rest of the world it's still usable, but those using BB10 as a daily driver, likly numbers in a few thousand at this point. I'm sadly about to have to change to Android from my trusty Passport. The biggest trauma appears to be the contacts, I can't see how I can transfer my contacts to the new phone, anyone able to help on that?In 2023 your contacts should be in a modern email system that sync to all your devices.... But if your still living in the past, check out Conite's archive ( Yes and no. Given that Microsoft decided to ruin a perfectly good phone by removing support for basic authentication, I was forced to move to an iPhone. However, with all the shortcomings of an iPhone, for what I do, I have been bouncing back and forth. Granted, moving more to the iPhone and the inevitable downgrade, but such is life. On another note, for those like me who do ...

Three Words That Describe BlackBerry in 2023

Few people in the world have experienced the BlackBerry evolution — from smartphones to cybersecurity and embedded software — the way Neelam Sandhu has. As Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Elite Customer Success Officer, she knows why government agencies, their military forces, and some of the world’s largest banks remain long-time, loyal customers. “ Trust. Privacy. Reliability.” Those are the three words Sandhu uses to describe the kind of rare relationships the company has cultivated with its biggest customers over the years. “Our trusted relationships, built on security, go back many, many years. Those customers evolved with us to now use our software, whether it's our IoT software or our cybersecurity software, or both,” says Sandhu. “And I believe the second tenet after trust is privacy. We have never monetized user data. We believe each customer owns their own data and it should remain that way.” And then there is the reliability element. “Our solutions are always on,” she says. “Whether a device is This is a small part of my conversation with Sandhu during the 2023 RSA Conference in San Francisco, where she recounted some of the highlights and insights gleaned during her 14 years with the company. Watch our BlackBerry LIVE Conversation, below: Among her many roles as part of BlackBerry’s “C Suite,” there is one that gives her a particular sense of pride: that of Senior Vice President of Sustainability. “We are a This high level of innovation and integrity, along w...
