BMW G310R (2016

Updated: 19 August 2021 The A2 licence-friendly BMW G310R is arguably the German firm's most important bike to date. • Related: BMW wants to tempt new riders into motorcycling across the globe and this is the machine they hope will draw them in. It’s well built, light, easy to manage at low speed and it even has a sporty side when you push it hard. But it’s let down slightly but its clutch and gearbox at low speed. In 2021 this version of the R was replaced by the 2021 BMW G310R. 4 out of 5 (4/5) The BMW’s tubular steel frame is built for rigidity, durability and to keep costs down. Shoving the motor right up the front of the bike has allowed BMW to fit a long die-cast ali swingarm for less nervous, more sure-footed handling. An S1000RR-look-a-like front end features non-adjustable upside down forks and an ABS-equipped radial-mount four-piston Bybre caliper, biting a 300mm disc. The single rear shock is non-adjustable. The G310R has a low, friendly riding position and with a seat height of 758mm it’s easy for the short riders to get their feet flat on the floor at a standstill. But the BMW still manages to have a big bike feel and spacious riding position, so if you’re coming from a bigger bike, it doesn’t feel like you’re downsizing. The softly padded seat is comfy for an hour or so, but for all-day riding it will eventually give you bum ache. For a decent length commute it’s fine, though. Looking down at the controls its clear you’re on a BMW. There’s the giveaway propel...

BMW G310R (2021

Updated: 19 January 2023 Talk about a tough second album for the 2021 BMW G310R - the Bavarian firm's small-capacity G-series of bikes have received a mixed reception in the UK. Built in India via the firm’s link-up with TVS Motor Company to keep their price tags competitive, the BMW G310R roadster was the first to appear While the GS has generally failed to hit the mark, the R is the more popular of the two models and makes for a tempting lightweight city bike that comes with a solid array of extras and a competitive price tag of £5190 (in January 2023). With Euro5 regulations now coming into force, BMW have given the R a slight update for 2021 that essentially focuses around ensuring the single-cylinder motor meets the more stringent emissions requirements. The updates are effectively just a new ride-by-wire throttle and a self-boosting anti-hopper clutch as the single makes the same power and torque as before, which is good news, and on the chassis front you only get new span-adjustable levers, LED lights and new paint finishes but there wasn’t much the R needed anyway. Have BMW pulled their punches and should they have gone further? Some kind of connectivity would have been nice to see but when you consider the R’s price tag against its rivals’ (the There again, you would be very hard pushed to spot the updates so BMW haven’t really given buyers much of a reason to rush out and slap down a deposit on the 2021 bike as opposed to snapping up a marginally used older 2020 ...

Wake up with a smile on your face. Because every day is an opportunity to try something new – with the BMW G 310 R. It is an intuitive, agile ride thanks to the optimized engine with Ride by Wire and slipper clutch, whether you are off to work, to an appointment, or out of the city. Experience the maneuverability, easy handling, and sportiness of the G 310 R and use it to push to new boundaries every single day – simply put: #NeverStopChallenging. The unconventional single-cylinder engine has a special design: Compared to conventional designs, the cylinder head is rotated 180 degrees, which pushes the vehicle’s center of gravity towards the front wheel. This makes the G 310 R agile and easy to control. With the new Ride by Wire system, throttle response is stable and at the ready. And the self-reinforcing slipper clutch makes switching gears easy. Good looks run in the family because the G 310 R carries the DNA of the BMW S 1000 R. With its bare design, it wears its heart on its sleeve and thus stands for lightness, precision, and a pure riding experience. The Sport style emphasizes the unmistakable racing look of the bike in particular. The engine area now comes in Titanium Gray Metallic. It gives the G 310 R its modern finish in combination with the footrest plates and pillion passenger grips. © 2023 BMW North America, LLC. 2021 BMW G 310 R First Ride Review: A Balanced Beginner

Throughout its 98-year history, To manufacture a sub-500cc platform for a global audience, BMW partnered with India’s TVS Motor Company in 2013. The development deal almost instantly bore fruit, with the German company revealing the G 310 R concept at EICMA 2015. Featuring a liquid-cooled, 313cc single, the small-bore roadster opened new segments and markets for BMW when it hit showrooms in 2017. More than four years later, the beginner bike is still introducing new riders and commuters to the legacy brand. While impending Euro 5 standards prompted the firm to update its tiny thumper in Designed at BMW’s Munich headquarters, the 310 R already looks remarkably similar to its big brother, the Exciting as the upgrades are, the question still remains: will the extra doodads make for an even better beginner Beemer? Luckily, BMW placed a 2021 G 310 R under our supervision for a few weeks, and the changes were most evident in the revised powerplant. A Hit Single Despite receiving the Euro 5 treatment, the DOHC, fuel-injected thumper still touts 34 horsepower at 9,500 rpm and 21 lb-ft of torque at 7,500 rpm. Unlike countless models that struggle with bottom-end fueling or mid-range flat spots following emissions updates, the 310 R leaps off the line and evenly tugs up to its 10,500-rpm redline. Of course, the new automatic idle speed increase ensures that new riders don’t stall in a busy intersection, but the power delivery is just as accommodating. With only 34 ponies “under the ...
