BYD Atto 3 Review 2023

Wow, another Chinese electric car you've never heard of. And this one comes from the biggest electric-car company you've never heard of, BYD. It shifted more than 900,000 electric vehicles in 2022, mostly in China but increasingly elsewhere. The Atto 3 is a pretty straightforward small-to-medium electric crossover. Think BYD? Say what? BYD is one of the world's biggest battery makers. It builds electric trains, buses (hundreds of them running in London, under Alexander Dennis bodies), grid storage units, cars, and batteries for all the above as well as for electronic gadgets. BYD has 600,000 employees of which a slightly staggering 50,000 are engineers. One employee you might have heard of is BYD's design boss, The Atto 3 is the first car on BYD's newest electric platform, which has the potential to take FWD, RWD and AWD. And 400V or 800V. And come in various sizes for low-slung cars or SUVs. BYD is across it all: the battery, motor, electronics, chips and software are all homebrewed. And very advanced. The Atto 3 seems relatively unambitious as a first step: FWD, 400V, a 60kWh battery. But that's the kind of car selling like crazy in Europe, and so the Atto 3 is targeted to build up a relatively big presence in a short time. Inside though, things get a lot bolder. It's brightly coloured and the shapes are swoopy. Details lie somewhere between playful and cheesy. Your kids will love it, and if that stops them getting sick or complaining they're not there yet, it's worth it...

China's BYD takes cautious approach to U.S. in global EV push

BEIJING, Jan 18 (Reuters) - Chinese electric vehicle (EV) giant BYD While BYD has not fully articulated its global ambitions in public, a concerted worldwide push has become the single most important strategic focus for China's biggest EV maker, four sources familiar with BYD management's thinking said. Besides a drive into some European markets already underway, BYD spent much of last year conducting a study on how to set up a U.S. distribution network for its latest electric models, two of the sources said. They described the study as advanced and serious, with specific recommendations from Detroit-based consultancy Urban Science on how many outlets in each state and city BYD would need, as well as formats for the brick-and-mortar stores. The momentum was building towards an announcement at this year's global CES tech show in Las Vegas, where BYD was planning to showcase a new generation of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrids for the U.S. market, a BYD official said. The announcement never came. Tense relations between Washington and Beijing, anti-China sentiment in the United States and President Joe Biden's move to prioritise home-grown production of EVs and batteries all pushed BYD to hit the pause button, one of the sources said. BYD's management has yet to give the project a final green light and an aggressive U.S. expansion remains unlikely for the foreseeable future, the source said. "BYD is taking a cautious approach to the U.S.," the person said...

BYD Seagull EV Priced From $11,400, Gets 10,000 Orders On First Day

When it comes to dimensions, the BYD Seagull bridges the gap between the city car and subcompact segments, measuring 148.8 inches (3,780 millimeters) in length, 67.5 in (1,715 mm) in width, and 60.6 in (1,540 mm) in height, with a wheelbase of 98.4 in (2,500 mm). That means it's 13.6 in (345 mm) shorter, 2.1 in (55 mm) narrower, and 1.2 in (30 mm) lower than the BYD Dolphin. The five-door, four-seat hatchback features a modern design that's somewhat similar to the Dolphin, if a bit more daring. The Seagull features sharp headlights available with LEDs, a large windshield with a single wiper, "floating roof" design, a rear LED light bar that reminds of the Inside, the Seagull features a 5-inch instrument cluster and a 12.8-inch infotainment screen, a sporty steering wheel with a flat bottom, a wireless charging pad, and two cup holders.

BYD Set Massive Plug

That's the new all-time record (the previous one was 234,598 units in December 2022), and an indication that we will probably see a very hot second part of the year for BYD sales. An interesting finding is that battery-electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) sales were basically equal, while usually PHEVs had some advantage over BEVs. Maybe we will see some change here? BYD plug-in car sales results: • BEVs: 119,603 (up 124% year-over-year) • PHEVs: 119,489 (up 96% year-over-year) • Total: 239,092 (up 109% year-over-year) BYD also sold 1,128 commercial electric vehicles for a total of 240,220 plug-in vehicles last month. Out of the total number, some 10,203 BYD plug-ins were exported. BYD plug-in electric car sales – May 2023 Top models The refreshed BYD Qin family (BEV + PHEV) once again was the best-selling one in BYD's lineup - 43,757 units. Then we can see the BYD Song family (BEV + PHEV) at 38,014, the all-electric BYD Yuan at 35,815, the all-electric BYD Dolphin at 30,679, and the BYD Han family (BEV + PHEV) at 20,387. Other results include the BYD Tang family (BEV + PHEV) at 11,871, the all-new plug-in hybrid BYD Chaser 07 at 10,457, the plug-in hybrid BYD Frigate 07 at 10,005. The all-electric BYD Seal noted 8,079 units. More about BYD

China's BYD announces new Fang Cheng Bao brand of energy vehicles

BEIJING, June 9 (Reuters) - BYD announced on Friday a new brand of electric vehicles (EV) ranging from off-road to sports cars as the company looks to meet more diversified consumer demand. The new brand is called Fang Cheng Bao, which translates from Chinese literally as "Formula" and "Leopard". The Chinese EV giant is expected to launch the first model this year - an SUV identified for now internally as SF, BYD said in a statement. BYD, with its Dynasty and Ocean series of pure electric and plug-in hybrid models mostly priced under 300,000 yuan ($42,140.16), has been out selling Volkswagen-branded cars in China since November. It sold 996,476 cars in the first five months, nearly double the number of a year earlier. The company launched a premium brand, Yangwang, in January and hired thousands of software engineers recently to beef up its capability in ($1=7.12 yuan) About Reuters • About Reuters , opens new tab • Careers , opens new tab • Reuters News Agency , opens new tab • Brand Attribution Guidelines , opens new tab • Reuters Leadership , opens new tab • Reuters Fact Check , opens new tab • Reuters Diversity Report , opens new tab Stay Informed • Download the App , opens new tab • Newsletters , opens new tab Information you can trust Reuters, the news and media division of Thomson Reuters, is the world’s largest multimedia news provider, reaching billions of people worldwide every day.
