Heading to Bengaluru airport on Friday? Avoid these roads as PM lands in town

If you plan to fly from the Bengaluru airport on Friday, and are worried about how to get there on time with Prime Minister Narendra Modi paying a visit to the state, these are the roads you need to avoid to stay away from his convoy and catch your flight. PM Modi's convoy will be passing through roads approaching Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport on Friday. (Image for representation only) The Bengaluru traffic police department has put out a press release listing out the streets where vehicular movement will be prohibited on Friday from 8am to 2pm. Traffic is our worst enemy, say techies

Many techies travelling to the International Tech Park Bangalore ( ITPL), in Whitefield, spend over an hour to cover a distance of about nine km from Marathahalli. Many of them leave home before 8 am, to avoid traffic and reach office by 9.30am. Divija Krishnappa, a programme manager at an IT firm in ITPL said, “I take the Marathahalli route to ITPL every day and it takes me an hour to cover that short distance, despite the wider roads. There is no traffic management in the area, with buses and cabs stopping randomly on the way, leading to congestions. In order to avoid traffic, I leave home before 8 am many a times. Before 8 am, only school buses would have started to ply on the road.” “It is a frustrating to drive on this stretch, leading to rash driving, which often causes minor accidents. Bikes bump into cars, and there is a 15-minute pause in the movement of traffic. This is the only route that connects to ITPL and many people from Sarjapur and Indiranagar take this route. If there are traffic wardens and police appointed to mind this road, the traffic can be managed. I prefer public transport but due to heavy traffic I sometimes have to take my bike to work,” he added.

Cable Cars

Visit our No experience is more uniquely San Francisco than a ride on a cable car. Cable cars have come to symbolize our great city (along with another world-renowned transportation icon. Hint: it's a suspension bridge painted an International Orange color.) After all, we're the city that first launched cars pulled along by cables running beneath the street. Invented here nearly 150 years ago and named a National Historic Landmark in 1964, today's San Francisco cable cars are kept in tip-top shape by our agency. Bangalore: Detours to avoid Traffic Lights

Living in Bangalore for over 20 years now, it pays to know a few detours that ensure you don't need to wait at a signal for over a minute when you're late for work(or college, in my case). All of us know a few of these gems that we covet and is our go-to-detour when time is of the essence. The purpose of this thread is to share such detours anywhere in Bangalore. Helps us save time by not having to stop at signals as well as beating a traffic jam, which, though a part and parcel of Bangalore now, is something all of us would love to do without. I share a few detours I know of: 1) Lifestyle Junction to Vellara Junction: The Cathedral School Signal This road is chock-a-block with traffic every morning. Recently, I came across a small little detour, which though a few hundred meters longer, will help you save considerable amount of time and irritation. 2) From Madhav Rao Circle towards Jayanagar: Teachers College Signal Get onto Kankanpalya Main Road, take the right before Trinity Heart Foundation. Then take the 5th left(Which I think is immediately after the Mosque on the right side and will be the only left turn without the Metro preventing you from crossing RV Road) and then go straight ahead and cross RV Road. I hope this thread is useful. My sense of direction is pretty bad, so I can never gather alternate routes well. And those who know any such detours at all, please do let us know! 1) Lifestyle Junction to Vellara Junction: The Cathedral School Signal Nice thread! Won...

My Creative View

Recently, I visited my friend staying near ITPL, Whitefield (Bangalore). It took close to 2.5 hrs. to reach destination from my place (around 45 KMs travel distance). On my way to destination, I noticed heavy traffic jams near couple of junctions such as marathahalli bridge, kundalahalli gate etc. I was shocked to see vehicles queued up in a KM stretch and such a terrific traffic since I stay west side of Bangalore where traffic is not so horrible! I was wondering if we could ever solve this traffic issue? Despite carpooling, public transports and other means such as metro, traffic seems increasing day by day and annoying. Being an engineer, my mind started thinking about some ‘engineering’ ways to solve this problem but couldn’t get a perfect solution. I ignored my left brain and ordered right brain to think some creative ideas. My right brain clearly indicated that only way to solve this issue is to bring something like moving people and goods through aerial route and not through road transportation. Below are few options provided by my creative side: Option1: Build ‘Pushpaka Vimana’, a flying chariot used in epic Ramayana. This flying chariot can transfer people from one place to another through aerial route much faster than road transport. I burst into laughter. How can we build this flying chariot in this age? Is this possible technically? Don’t know if this can become reality after 100 years but definitely not an option now, I thought. I choose to park this option. O...
