Cancer care: Admn, Tata Memorial Centre ink pact : The Tribune India

Tribune News Service Chandigarh, June 7 In a significant step towards improving cancer care and early detection of the disease, the Health Department of the Chandigarh Administration has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (HBCH&RC) at Mullanpur near here. The HBCH&RC is a unit of Tata Memorial Centre. The collaboration aims at screening people for early detection of cancer and providing them treatment besides conducting awareness programmes. Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Banwarilal Purohit approved the MoU. The collaboration will facilitate the exchange of expertise and facilities between the hospitals and medical colleges of the Chandigarh Administration and the Tata Memorial Centre. Young students and postgraduates from these institutions will receive mutual training to enhance their skills in cancer prevention and management. The UT Health Department will receive technical support from Tata Memorial Centre to improve cancer care services across the city. The collaboration will also focus on improving the hospital-based cancer registry and population-based cancer registries in Chandigarh, which will aid in comprehensive data collection for effective cancer management. PM to inaugurate Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre in Mullanpur on August 24

Conceived over eight years ago, the state-of-the-art Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre at Medicity, New Chandigarh, will finally be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 24. Some of the OPD facilities at Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre were already launched in May this year. (Getty Images) The foundation stone for the 300-bed centrally funded hospital was laid by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on December 30, 2013. Some of the OPD facilities were already launched in May this year. Hospital director Dr Jigeeshu Divatia said all OPD services at the hospital will be made fully operational following the inauguration. “The OPDs are equipped to offer services for surgical oncology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, palliative care and preventive oncology, apart from chemotherapy, radiotherapy, radiology, CT scan, MRI, ultrasound, X-ray, mammography, day care, pathology and lab facilities.” He added that currently 25-30 patients were being attended to at the OPDs daily. Set up on 50 acres, at a cost of ₹684 crore, the hospital will act as a tertiary care centre for the entire northern India, comprising Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. Who we are The Indian Railway Cancer Institute and Research Centre (IRCIRC) was established by the North Eastern Railway (NER) to provide cancer care services to their employees and their families. In 2017, NER on behalf of Indian Railways, Government of India entered into a MoU with Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai on behalf of Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India, for the upgradation of cancer care services and facilities at IRCIRC. An accelerated process of renovation, extension and induction of new equipment was carried out to make a swift and effective transition. Within a span of 6 months the new edifice of the Centre was ready. Cancer hospital to come up at Mullanpur

Mohali: Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital Research Centre (HBCH) is coming up at New Chandigarh (Mullanpur) on over 50 acre land allotted for the same. After the foundation stone was laid in 2013 by the then PM Manmohan Singh, construction was not started. The hospital is being prepared under the Centre's department of atomic energy by spending over Rs 450 crore. Sources said, "Delay was caused due to lack of equipment and tools needed for setting up the hospital to be provided by atomic department. Now, all sanctions are complete and in the next two months, tenders would be floated for construction work." HBCH will have 200 doctors and 500 nurses apart from paramedical staff for treatment of cancer. HBCH would have 10 day-care beds, three intensive care unit beds, three recovery beds and eight inpatient beds. This centre would also be equipped with high-end cancer diagnostic and treatment facilities besides chemotherapy and surgical facilities. GMADA chief administrator A K Sinha said, "We allotted land to HBCH and now, there people have conducted the required survey.
