CBSE 12th Results 2023: Over 22k students score over 95%, are these high scores misleading?

By Roshni Chakrabarty: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the CBSE board results 2023 for Classes 10 and 12. The CBSE 10 th results reveal that almost 2 lakh students scored above 90%, while over 44,000 students scored above 95%. The CBSE 12 th results 2023 on the other hand saw 1,12,838 students receive above-90% marks and 22,622 students receive above-95% marks. The staggeringly large number of students bagging such high scores raises concerns about the marking system and the quality of education being imparted by CBSE. INCREASING TREND IN HIGH SCORERS Over the past decade, the number of students scoring above 90% or 95% in Class 12 has been steadily increasing – not taking into account the pandemic years of 2020, 2021, and 2022 because the CBSE board exams were not held in the ideal manner. In 2022, Covid-19 derailed the conduct of the last few papers which were marked on the basis of internal assessments and practicals; in 2021, CBSE cancelled the Class 10 board exams and fixed evaluation criteria on the basis of which schools send in the marks for the students; and in 2022, CBSE conducted the board exams in two terms for the first time.
