Summary. This article presents research suggesting that disclosure by social media influencers of commercial relationships with the brands they promote may actually increase rather than compromise their perceived expertise and authenticity. The researchers conclude that companies should encourage influencers to disclose and form long-term relationships with them. In 2018, The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has taken note. Concerned that commercial interests would drive peer-to-peer interactions, the FTC has since 2017 “invited” companies and influencers, with its“ Many companies are pushing back: Our research, based on surveys taken between 2015 and 2018, calls that belief into question. First of all, while influencer disclosure did appear to make a small, though significant difference on consumers’ attitudes towards brands during 2017 in the immediate aftermath of the FTC recommendation, that no longer appears to be the case. The likelihood of viewing a brand positively following an influencer’s recommendation was roughly the same whether or not a relationship between the brand and the influencer had been disclosed. Our most interesting findings relate to purchase intentions. We find that in any particular year, disclosure makes almost no difference to the impact of the influencer’s recommendation on the purchase decision. Rob Charry is being let go by 94 WIP as part of Sources tell Crossing Broad that the long-time weekend host and update anchor was offered the overnight shift but declined, leading to his departure. I’m not sure if this was a forced buyout or voluntary severance situation, but Rob had been at WIP for more than three decades and would be presumably making a decent amount of money from either one of those exit scenarios. Charry was most recently working weekends alongside Rob Ellis following Hollis Thomas’ September departure. He did updates during the week and also produced and voiced WIP specials and year-end programming that would air during the winter holiday season. He served as a station’s union representative for a long time and was approaching retirement. As far as I can tell, weekend programming seems to be mostly unaffected beyond this, though I guess we’ll find out soon. Glen Macnow and Ray Didinger both work part time, as does Ellis, who returned to WIP in 2018 after his departure from 97.5 the Fanatic. God and the Art of Happiness is a sequel to Ellen Charry's previous book: By the Renewing of Your Minds: The Pastoral Function of Christian Doctrine (Oxford University Press, 1997). As she points out in the introduction, the impetus behind the focus on happiness in both works was “when my beloved husband and companion of forty years died an untimely and pointless death” (p. ix). Contemporary writing on grief and suffering by theologians has tended to look intently into the experience of suffering and the presence of God in the teeth of trauma. In this study, Charry casts a more encompassing gaze and explores the art of happiness pursued in the aftermath of grief. Charry provides theological focus to this holistic account of happiness by coining the term asherism, which is meant to invoke the aspect of happiness conveyed by the Hebrew ʾ ašrê.This refers to a happiness that is found in the pursuit of an excellent way of life in community. Though there are other Hebrew terms for “happiness,” including śāma ḥ(which emphasizes the subjective aspect and connotes pleasure) Charry's broad argument in the book is that this second aspect ( śāma ḥ) is subsidiary to the covenantal grounding for happiness denoted byʾ ašrê.
