'Chhello Show' to release in theatres on THIS date, trailer out now

New Delhi: Roy Kapur Films dropped the first trailer for their upcoming Gujarati movie Chhello Show. For the unversed, the film is also India’s official entry for the 2023 Oscars. The movie by Pan Nalin portrays the tale of a young Gujarati boy who discovers his love for movies. The youngster is enthralled by light, its capacity to tell stories, and the heroes it creates, and he longs to watch movies nonstop. Of course this gets him in trouble with his father and even the local police. He is branded a thief with a bunch of his friends but his love for movie can’t be contained. Sharing the trailer of the film, Roy Kapur films captioned: The cinema is more than just a place…it is an experience. And #LastFilmShow is a cinematic experience like no other. Watch India’s official entry to the #Oscars at a cinema near you on Oct 14th! Chhello Show beat out competition including SS Rajamouli’s RRR, Ranbir Kapoor’s Brahmastra: Part One Shiva, Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files, and R Madhavan’s directorial debut Rocketry, according to FFI president TP Aggarwal. “The 17-member jury unanimously chose Chhello Show. There were a total of 13 films of different languages including six in Hindi — Brahmastra, ‘The Kashmir Files, Anek, Jhund, Badhaai Do and Rocketry — and one each in Tamil (Iravin Nizhal), Telugu (RRR), Bengali (Aparajito) and Gujarati (Chhello Show) as well as few others,” Aggarwal told PTI. By Shweta Keshri: "The future belongs to storytellers," Fazal tells (played by Bhavesh Shrimali) Samay (played by Bhavin Rabari) in Chhello Show, a film which is all about telling stories. Where the protagonist, a 9-year-old boy, manages to hold the interest of his friends with his brilliant storytelling skills, using colourful matchboxes. Director Pan Nalin's protagonist in Chhello Show, 9-year-old Samay, is fascinated by films. He loves watching movies and wants to be a filmmaker. While Samay can eat, breathe and live films, his father (played by Dipen Raval) is strictly against cinema, as he believes it corrupts people. So, the only film that he took Samay to watch in the theatres was a devotional film, but little did he know that this would form a never-ending bond between his son and cinema. The film was just the beginning. The flickering light coming from the projection room fascinates Samay to no end. So much so that when he gets to see it up close, he is in awe of it and later, when he is reunited with the projector after a break, goes on to even hug it. Chhello Show is part autobiographical, as Samay's story draws inspiration from Pan Nalin's own life. Much like Samay's father, Pan Nalin's father also sold tea at the train station. Nalin also stole cinema reels, befriended a projectionist and watched films in exchange for the sumptous Kathiawadi food prepared by his mother. Oscars 2023: Gujarati film 'Chhello Show' is India's official entry for Academy Awards

Image Source : FILE IMAGE Gujarati film 'Chhello Show' is India's official entry for Academy Awards The Gujarati film 'Chhello Show' has been chosen as the official entry for Oscars 2023 from India in the Best International Feature Film category, Film Federation of India headed by Chairman Director Nagabarna announced on Tuesday. Earlier it was speculated that either Titled "Last Film Show" in English, the movie, directed by Pan Nalin, will release in theatres countrywide on October 14. The film is produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur’s banner Roy Kapur Films, Jugaad Motion Pictures, Monsoon Films, Chhello Show LLP, and Marc Duale. The movie, which features Bhavin Rabari, Bhavesh Shrimali, Richa Meena, Dipen Raval and Paresh Mehta, had its world premiere as the opening film at the Tribeca Film Festival in June last year. The film is inspired by Nalin's own memories of falling in love with movies as a child in rural Gujarat. It won multiple awards during its festival run, including the Golden Spike at the 66th Valladolid Film Festival in Spain where it also enjoyed commercial success during its theatrical run.
