The film streaming on Netflix revolves around a young couple played by Yami Gautam, who essays the role of flight-attendant Neha Grover and her boyfriend Ankit, a diamond insurer, played by Sunny Kaushal. The film opens at the airport where different people are heading to catch their flights. Soon we get to see a tense-looking Yami. While the boarding is on we are introduced to the lives of the two main protagonists and howthings started between them. Keeping the general audience in mind, what are the signs of a good film? It should be entertaining, with a good-looking cast, a little masala, and a gripping plot that will keep the viewer hooked till the end. If the film ticks all these boxes, your movie is a hit, at least among the audience. This week, we finally got to see Yami Gautam and Sunny Kaushal's much-awaited movie Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga, which efficiently ticks all the boxes that we have mentioned above. The quirky film directed by Ajay Singh and written by Shiraz Ahmed and Amar Kaushik is 1 hour and 50 minutes long, and in this time span, the director and writer duo make sure to put in everything in the plot- from showing a beautiful Middle East city called Al-Barkat to romance, action, a diamond heist and even an aeroplane hijack. A vegan meal, a diamond-studded phone case, a kick to Yami Gautam’s guts, and Sunny Kaushal’s broken nose. These are the things Netflix’s Chor Nikal Ke Bha ga would have been remembered for. But the film is too busy trying to trick the audience — and failing at it — to care if anything works out. Directed by Ajay Singh, the film aspires to be a genre-bender by bringing tropes of a heist and hijack thrillers together. The lead characters, Kaushal and Gautam do the redundant mating dance long enough to bore everyone before they show their true selves. They need to rob diamonds worth Rs 120 crore on an international flight to get goons off their backs. And there’s a corrupt home minister sitting in Delhi who could become their victim. But they are upstaged by hijackers clad in staple ski masks. The film has some clever twists, but even after dropping one bomb after another, there’s hardly any impact. There is little character development of the hostages — they are shown to be completely out of focus and you stay unbothered about casualties. What disappoints the most is how Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga wastes away actors Sharad Kelkar and Indraneil Sengupta in its hurried plot.
