अध्याय- महात्मा गाँधी और राष्ट्रीय आंदोलन [ गांधी जी की भारत वापसी ] मोहनदास करमचंद गांधी :- गाँधी जी विदेश में 2 दशक तक रहे और जनवरी 1915 में भारत वापस आ गए. गांधी जी ने इन वर्षों का ज्यादातर हिस्सा अफ्रीका में गुज़ारा था. वहां वे एक वकील के रूप में गए थे और बाद में वे उस क्षेत्र के भारतीय समुदाय के नेता बन गए. दक्षिण अफ्रीका ने ही गाँधी जी को ‘महात्मा’ बनाया, और. दक्षिण अफ्रीका में ही गाँधी जी ने पहली बार सत्याग्रह के रूप में जानी गई अहिंसात्मक विरोध की अपनी विशिष्ट तकनीक का इस्तेमाल किया. उन्होंने विभिन्न धर्मों के बीच एकता को बढ़ाने का प्रयास किया. उच्च जाति वाले भारतीयों को निम्न जाति वाले लोगो और महिलाओं के प्रति भेदभाव वाले व्यवहार के लिए चेतावनी दी. 1915 में जब गांधी जी भारत आए तो उस समय का भारत 1893 में जब वे गए थे तब के समय से अलग था. भारत अभी भी ब्रिटिश उपनिवेश था. लेकिन भारत राजनीतिक दृष्टि से काफी सक्रिय हो चुका था. स्वदेशी आन्दोलन (1905-07) :- कुछ प्रमुख नेता : बाल गंगाधर तिलक (महाराष्ट्र). विपिन चन्द्र पाल (बंगाल). लाला लाजपत राय (पंजाब). लाल, बाल,पाल. इन लोगो ने अंग्रेजी शासन के प्रति लड़ाकू विरोध का समर्थन किया. गोपाल कृष्ण गोखले , मोहम्मद अली जिन्ना. वहीं कुछ उदारवादी समूह जो लगातार प्रयास करते रहने का हिमायती था. महात्मा गांधी के राजनीतिक गुरु - गोपाल कृष्ण गोखले थे. इन्होंने गांधी जी को एक वर्ष तक ब्रिटिश भारत यात्रा करने की सलाह दी. जिससे कि वह इस भूमि और यहां के लोगों को जान सकें. यहां के लोगों की समस्याओं को समझ सकें.
