‎Cobra (1986) directed by George P. Cosmatos • Reviews, film + cast • Letterboxd

For most of the movie Stallone has a match sticking out of his mouth like a toothpick. In the climactic action scene he pours a barrel of gasoline on a bad guy…but no longer has the match in his mouth. He just takes one out of his pocket and lights the guy on fire. This is a HUGE MISSED OPPORTUNITY for an amazing payoff where the match that’s been right there the whole movie becomes the weapon that finishes off a bad guy. Come on, Sly. • Without any irony or that "aware of how silly it is" quality people for some goddamn reason champion in action movies these days, this Sylvester Stallone penned thriller hurls a big sleazeball of post-Dirty Harry fascism at your eyeballs faster than you can say MTV. I would argue that Cannon Films generally, and this film in particular, represent the nexus of low brow exploitation and slick Hollywood spectacle (and perhaps its apex too). This is a nasty and mean piece of work, that, though never overtly graphic, feels as grimy and ludicrous as some of the stuff that played on 42nd Street in the decade prior. It's all coated in a sheen of style from director George P. Cosmatos and… • This is why you should give this film a pass: - awsom(50) - cutting pizza with scissors - 'This is where the law ends and I start...........sucker!' - Matchstick toothpick. - Dennis Leary once said he wanted a cheese helmet so he could put it on and eat cheese the entire day. This is that. - There is no plot. This is a good thing. - Lots of A-team violence. One...

'COBRA' Is Officially Convening For Season 3

The British TV series The series' slightly madcap attitude may be partially due to the real-life government response code on which it's based. COBR in the U.K. government stands for Cabinet Office Briefing Rooms, and Season 1 found the Tory government of Robert Sutherland ( Robert Carlyle) facing down a massive solar flare, which knocked the country's electrical grid and navigational systems, leading to riots. Season 2, subheaded "Cyberwar," brings a two-fold crisis, starting with an accidental explosion destroying the coastline along northern Kent. The rescue operation is disrupted when unknown forces choose that moment to launch a cyberattack, tying the government's hands. (It will surprise no one that the Cyberattack is suspected to originate from Russian hackers working hand-in-glove with Putin's government.) As for Season 3, In COBRA: Rebellion, we find Prime Minister Robert Sutherland and his government faced with a new crisis - a sinister rebellion from within. In a fraught climate where extreme eco-protests, arms deals and shadowy corporate security firms collide, Sutherland is forced to question everything, including what he is willing to sacrifice to remain in power. Carlyle will return as Tory Prime Minister Robert Sutherland, the Leader of the Conservative Party, with Victoria Hamilton ( The Crown) as Anna Marshall, his Downing Street Chief of Staff. Also expected to return: Lucy Cohu ( Torchwood) as the PM's wife, Rachel Sutherland, Richard Dormer ( Game of Th...

It’s those characters we’re focusing on here with this rundown of the Cobra Kai season 5 cast. Ralph Macchio in Cobra Kai (Image credit: Curtis Bonds Baker/Netflix) Daniel LaRusso was the hero of The Karate Kid movies and in Cobra Kai has taken over the sensei role that Mr. Miyagi had in the movies (RIP Pat Morita). However, Daniel is having a harder time with teaching Miyagi’s style of karate. While he first had to deal with Johnny, the former rivals team up to take on Cobra Kai in the most recent seasons. This season looks to start with Daniel waving the white flag, but not for long, as they know what Cobra Kai and Terry Silver truly stand for. William Zabka and Ralph Macchio in Cobra Kai (Image credit: Curtis Bonds Baker/Netflix) Johnny Lawrence was The Karate Kid’s villain, but from the start, Cobra Kai has reframed the character to be more of a central part of the story. While Lawrence and LaRusso start off as enemies, they eventually become allies as Cobra Kai goes into dangerous directions. Like LaRusso, Lawrence takes the events of season 4 hard. The trailer for Cobra Kai season 5 shows Johnny has moved on from teaching karate to becoming an rideshare driver, while also trying to mend the relationship between Robby and Migu...
