New Delhi, Oct 05: The nine-day festival of Navratri, one of the most important Hindu festival is just around the corner. With the arrival of the Maa Durga, the auspicious Devi Paksha begins. And devotees of the Mother Goddess shall observe a fast, perform puja and celebrate the nine manifestations of feminine power. • 7 October, Day 1 - Pratipada, Ghatasthapana, Yellow colour, Goddess Shailputri is worshipped on this day. • 8 October, Day 2 - Dwitiya, Chandra Darshana, Green Colour, Goddess Brahmacharini is worshipped. • 9 October, Day 3 - Tritiya, Sindoor Tritiya, Grey colour, Chandraghanta Puja; Chaturthi, Kushmanda Puja, Vinayaka Chaturthi, Grey colour • 10 October, Day 4 - Panchami, Orange colour, Goddess Skandamata is worshipped on this day. • 11 October, Day 5 - Shashthi, White colour, Goddess Katyayani is worshipped on this day. • 12 October, Day 6 - Saptami, Red colour, Goddess Kalaratri is worshipped on 6th day of Navratri. • 13 October, Day 7 - Ashtami, Durga Ashtami, Royal Blue colour, Goddess Mahagauri is worshipped on this day. • 14 October, Day 8 - Navami, Pink colour, Ayudha Puja • 15 October, Day 9 - Vijay Dashami, Purple colour, Durga Visarjan

Navratri The potential of feminine energy, blooming in its highest divine form is worshipped as Durga. The holy festival of Navratri is considered as the most auspicious festival in India. In Sanskrit, Nav means nine and Ratri is night. Generally, days are considered optimistic but during Navratri, nights are considered most auspicious. People celebrate these nine nights with utmost enthusiasm and zeal in different regions of India. Waking up throughout the night is very significant. Vibrant and jubilant, this festival is celebrated in different styles. In West Bengal, it is celebrated with the name of Durgo Poojo or Durga Pooja, where big idols of Goddess are draped in beautiful silk sarees. Whereas, in Western part people celebrate this festival dancing Garba or dandiya. In Northern part of India, people fast for 9 days doing Jagrata (singing whole night, remembering the glory of Goddess) whereas in Southern part of India it is celebrated in great and grand manner. In Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh people display Golu (dolls) or Batukamma Panduga (flower stacks arranged in seven layers). Significance of Saree The festival might be celebrated in diverse forms all over India but, Saree is the common factor throughout the country. In north banarasi sarees, in south kanjivaram, upaada etc are worn during the festival.
