The event witnessed the presence of hundreds of temple devotees, local dignitaries, community leaders, and well-wishers. Casey Parikh, the project manager, commenced the event with the traditional ‘Deep Pragatya,’ a press release said. The new community hall, spanning 3500 sq. ft., will have a capacity to accommodate approximately 170 people. The estimated cost of the project is $1.25 million. Ajit Kothari, the Temple President, emphasized that the addition would not only enhance the temple as a place of worship but also serve as the new home for the Temple’s Sunday School, providing additional educational opportunities for children. Hawaiʻi County Mayor Mitch Roth will hold a town hall Tuesday night at Old Kona Airport Beach Park Pavilion to answer questions and concerns from residents — and to provide updates on county business and projects. This June 13 town hall, from 5 to 7 p.m., is the second in a series called: “Sustainable Horizons: Mayor Roth’s Community Impact Check-in.” The goal is to establish a platform where residents can stay informed about local initiatives, express their concerns and actively contribute to shaping the future of Hawai’i Island. The community meetings will be scheduled across the island in an effort to foster engagement with the residents. A variety of issues were mentioned during the first meeting, including the island-wide staffing shortage; affordable housing so young people donʻt move off the island; and a need for the county to put more informative signs in public parks. During the South Kona meeting, residents heard from county leaders who provided updates about plans, goals and initiatives impacting local neighborhoods.
