They were injured in the accident and have been admitted to different hospitals in Balasore district for treatment. The Railway Board has virtually given a clean chit to the loco pilot of Coromandel Express. The accident has been attributed to a change in the electronic interlocking system. The driver of the Coromandel Express stated that he had determined the path ahead based on the green signal he saw. Railway Board member Jaya Varma Sinha said that Coromandel Express suffered the most damage in the accident. "We talked to the driver of the Coromandel Express. He was in his senses when he told us that he had received a green signal,” Sinha said during a press briefing on Sunday. The driver of the Howrah Yesvantpur Express, which was running on the adjacent up line, claimed to have heard an unusual sound prior to the accident. “I also talked to the TT of coach A1 of the other train, the Howrah Yesvantpur Express. He told me that he heard a loud abnormal sound from the back. He felt there was some kind of obstruction,” said Sinha. The Coromandel Express hit a stationary goods train after enteri...
