The Moon cracked says NASA and the Quran

Tom Watters This video shows that the Moon is geologically active, as understood through lobate scarps, which demonstrate how the surface of the Moon has changed as it has shrunk. The undated video shows animated sequences of a satellite, the At the end of the video, the user, Quran Now, has added a label in the bottom of the video (space normally reserved for YouTube’s video operating icons) with verse 41:53 of the Qurʾān, which talks about God’s “signs in the universe”. As more completely noted in the video’s description, the user sees these lobate scarps as having been predicted in the Qurʾān (verse 54:1), a form of This video is almost entirely one produced by NASA, with the back bumper crediting the Evaluation: The NASA video does not include any Islamic material. The quote from the Qurʾān in the label at the end is accurate, although not every Muslim would agree that the verse mentioned in the description of the video has anything to do with the lobate scarps. The science as presented by NASA is accurate and reflects the understanding of contemporary scientists. Using science to “prove” the Qurʾān has long been questioned; see iʿjāz. There is insufficient historical material on which to base an evaluation.

Evidence of the Moon Splitting?

Q As-salamu Alaykum. Thank you for your efforts in da`wah, and jazakum Allah khayran. What does the first verse of Surat Al-Qamar in the Quran mean exactly? I heard from some people that the splitting actually happened at the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and that scientists proved that. Is that real? Please confirm by scientific evidence and relevant sites and sources. Thank you again. Answer Let us first examine closely the first verse ofSurat Al-Qamar (chapter 54) and read it in context of the following verse(s) and the whole surah. The first verse says: (Quran The verse refers to the cosmic event that occurred in the lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH-peace be upon him), by Allah’s will, in order to support His prophet against the pagan Arabs in Makkah, at the peak of their resistance and hostility. It was in response to their challenging the Prophet to bring them a sign. This is supported by a careful reading of the rest of Surat Al-Qamar, as follows: 1.The following two verses of Surat Al-Qamar say: is apt. The earth and universe are billions of years old. And the past 15 centuries since the moon’s splitting are a minute fraction of the long history of the universe from creation to the Last Day. This is in line with what the Prophet (PBUH) said: I and the Last Hour have been sent like this and (he while doing it) joined the forefinger with the middle finger. (Muslim) Evidence from Authentic Prophetic Hadith The event of the moon splitting has...

Social media posts falsely claim the Moon 'was once split in two'

A photo taken by NASA of the Moon's surface has been shared thousands of times in social media posts alongside a claim that the photo proves that the planetary mass was previously split in two. But the claim is false: the photo shows Rima Ariadaeus, which experts say is a fault system similar to those on earth. NASA has also refuted the claim, saying there is no scientific evidence that the Moon was split into two or more parts. A collage of four photos has been shared more than 260 times since it was uploaded on an Islamic page on Facebook The photo is titled: "The Miracle of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) 'Splitting of the Moon'". One picture in the collage shows the Moon's surface, with an arrow pointing to a purported crack seen on the Moon. Text superimposed on the picture reads: "This is the location of the split that extends across the length of the moon." The post's caption reads: "The Qur'an says...The hour has come near, and the moon has split [in two].... "This miracle was also proved by NASA..". Screenshot of the misleading post, taken on May 3, 2022 The second photo in the collage shows American astronauts The third photo shows two half Moons; and the last picture shows the full Moon. The claim -- circulating online among Muslim Internet users from various countries such as Indonesia and Pakistan for years -- refers to the story of a miracle performed by the Prophet Mohammed, which is derived from The same photo collage has been shared more than 15,700 t...

The Splitting of the Moon and the Holding Back of the Sun — Imam Ghazali Institute

The following is excerpted and adapted from IGI’s Miracles of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , an extract from the Shifa’ of Qadi ‘Iyad . The Splitting of the Moon “The Hour has drawn near, and the Moon was split in two. Yet, when- ever they see a sign, they turn away, saying, ‘Same old magic.’” ( 54:1-2 ) Allah Exalted informs us of the splitting of the Moon in the past tense, and describes how the disbelievers turned away from His signs. Commentators and people of the Sunnah unanimously agree that this miracle took place. Al-Ḥusayn ibn Muhammad al-Ḥāfiẓ reports in his book: Siraj ibn ‘Abdullah narrated, from al-Asiti, from al-Marwaziyy, from al-Farabi, from Bukhari, from Musaddad, from Yahya, from Shu’bah, and Sufyan, from al-A’mash, from Ibrahim, from Abu Ma’mar, from Ibn Mas’ud رضي الله عنه who said: “The Moon was split at the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ into two parts: one part was above the mountains, and the other part was below them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘Witness!’” ( The narration of Mujāhid includes: “...and we were with the Prophet ﷺ.” ( Some of the reports from al-A’mash add: “[...and we were] in Mina.” ( In the hadith of al-Aswad, on the authority of Ibn Mas ̔ūd, the wording includes: “Until I saw the mountains between the two halves of the Moon.” According to the narration of Masruq, it happened in Makkah, and he added: “The disbelievers of Quraysh said: ‘The son of Abu Kabshah has enchanted you with magic.’ Then one of them said: ‘If Muhammad ha...

Muslims claim that Muhammad did a miracle of “splitting the moon,” and that NASA supports this idea. Your response? – Evidence for Christianity

A Muslim started to debate with me about evidences of Islam, and he immediately shared a link which shows 19 convincing proofs of splitting of moon by Muhammad (a supposed miracle of Muhammad). Actually I almost lost my Christian Faith after reading the website he provided–it really contains shocking empirical evidences of splitting of the moon…and I really don’t know what to do now. I’m confused and bewildered…Here is the link:- Answer: This material about the supposed “splitting of the moon” is for the easily convinced, in my opinion. Muhammad did not split the moon! This is absurd on the highest possible level. Can anyone with a miligram of credulity believe this nonsense? This person offers literally zero evidence of anything even remotely approaching anything like a splitting of the moon. He shows evidence of small-scale geologic activity on the moon which happened billions of years ago as evidence that Muhammad split the moon! Are we supposed to believe this? He also quotes from Hindu scripture. Is this evidence? He refers to the prophet like Moses from among the Jews from Deuteronomy, but this is clearly a prophecy about Jesus, not Muhammad. Really, where is the evidence for Muhammad splitting the moon? If anything, all of this is evidence that the Qur’an is not inspired by God. The author quotes a NASA scientist completely out of context when he says that the surface of the moon is more broken up than we would have thought. This man certainly is not talking about t...
