Delhi: No entry for commercial vehicles without RFID tags from July 1

Commercial vehicles without radio frequency identification (RFID) tags and sufficient money in it will not be allowed to enter Delhi from July 1. The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), in a public notification, has said, “Commercial vehicles without valid RFID tags and sufficient recharge be not permitted to enter Delhi w.e.f. 01.07.2021.” A senior official of South MCD said RFID systems at entry points of More than 5 lakh RFID tags have been sold till now, he said. SDMC, which is the nodal agency for the RFID system implementation at toll plazas in Delhi, has installed the technology at all 124 toll plazas. The RFID tag is installed on the windshield of vehicles. Each time a vehicle crosses a toll plaza, money is deducted automatically. These tags can be obtained and recharged at 39 points of sale systems set up at Delhi entry points. SDMC has also launched an app for recharging tags online.

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party Chief Spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj on Monday (September 27) said that toll tax revenue is getting stolen by BJP-ruled MCD, and it is going into the pockets of councillors and the higher ranks of BJP. He said that BJP is waiving off dues of Rs 92.91 lakh of the toll company. He informed that the lockdown inside Delhi was from April 19 to June 7, while the MCD was going to give a waiver of toll tax to the toll company from April 10 to August 1. The Aam Aadmi Party will oppose this proposal in the standing committee of SDMC. AAP Chief Spokesperson Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj said, "Toll tax is a major source of revenue for the Municipal Corporations in India, and it is in Delhi as well." There are toll taxes on Delhi-Faridabad, Delhi-Gurugram borders and at many other places in and around Delhi. MCD approves hike in toll tax for commercial vehicles

The Standing Committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD),on Wednesday,approved the proposal to increase the toll tax on commercial vehicles entering Delhi by 17 to 28 per cent. The proposal,made by Commissioner K S Mehra,was approved despite protests by Congress councillors who alleged that the BJP-led MCD was increasing rates in an unprecedented manner. According to the new toll tax,taxis and autos would have to pay Rs 45,buses and trucks Rs 85,six-wheelers Rs 165,10-wheelers Rs 330 and 14-wheelers Rs 820. The earlier rates were Rs 35,Rs 70,Rs 140,Rs 280 and Rs 820 respectively. The new rates would be implemented from May 2011,when the present tender expires. Following this,fresh tenders would be invited and people will have to pay the increased rates. In the last two years,the MCD has generated a revenue of nearly Rs 200 crore from toll tax. After the approval,it expects an additional Rs 40 crore from the tax annually. “The amount of toll tax will increase,based on the re-tendering,as in how much the company getting the tender is willing to pay,” said Yogender Chandolia,chairman of the Standing Committee.

Commercial vehicles entering Delhi will have to pay more toll tax from May. HT Image The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) had approved a 17-28% hike in the rates under various categories in December 2010. The MCD has now initiated the process of engaging a new contractor for collection of tax, as well as upgrading and maintaining 121 toll booths at various entry points. With the term of the present contract expiring in May, the civic agency has asked eligible contractors to apply. The work of collecting tax would be granted for a period of three years by the MCD. "The selected contractor will have to collect tax, develop toll plazas, upgrade or modify the plazas on behalf of the MCD, at its own cost," said a senior MCD official. Under the new rates - to be applicable from May - buses, trucks and other such vehicles, which are paying Rs 70 at present, will have to pay Rs 85. The rate for six-wheel trucks has been increased from Rs 140 to Rs 165, that for 10-wheel trucks from Rs 280 to Rs 330 and for 14-wheel trucks from Rs 700 to Rs 820. The civic agency, in its request for proposal, has specified that companies with prior toll collection experience would be considered by it.
