Do you need to watch the 'Demon Slayer' movies?

Demon Slayer is one of the most talked about and critically acclaimed anime series – but do you need to watch the movies? • READ MORE: Based on the manga series by Koyoharu Gotouge, the anime series follows Tanjiro Kamado, who strives to become a Demon Slayer after his family were slaughtered and his younger sister, Nezuko, was transformed into a demon. New episodes of the show are released exclusively on the anime streaming services Demon Slayer movies. Do you need to watch the Demon Slayer Movies? CREDIT: Alamy The first film, Demon Slayer The Movie: Mugen Train, may be the highest-grossing movie of all time in Japan, but it’s not entirely necessary to watch it. The film’s story was adapted into a seven-episode arc for season two of the TV series, essentially covering the same events. So while the movie and seven-episode arc are worth watching in their own right, you’ll only need to see one of them to keep up with the story. As for the second movie, To The Swordsmith Village, it’s a similar situation. Released earlier in 2023, the film merely bundles together episodes 10 and 11 of the Entertainment District arc, along with the first episode of season three. Given that season three has now debuted, To The Swordsmith Village is largely redundant. You can simply follow the story by watching the episodes as normal. Although new episodes of Demon Slayer are exclusive to Crunchyroll and Funimation, fans in the UK can find previous seasons of the show on

What Demon Slayer Is All About The story of Demon Slayer revolves around Tanjiro Kamado, a young man who has his life changed forever when he returns home from an errand to find nearly his entire family brutally murdered by a demon. Only his little sister, Nezuko, appeared to survive the attack, though as a result, she turned into a demon herself and tried to attack Tanjiro. Despite the vicious attack, it’s clear to Tanjiro that Nezuko is still somewhere in there. Which is why when he gets saved by a member of the Demon Slayer Corps, he pleads with them to spare his sister, taking responsibility for both her own well-being as well as the safety of those she comes into contact with. To that end, Tanjiro seeks out Sakonji Urokodaki, a former Demon Slayer, and trains under him. Over the course of his training Tanjiro strengthens his body, mind, and learns a special breathing skill that allows him to use gorgeously animated sword techniques. (Seriously, check out the Play Once he’s trained up, Tanjiro puts his sister i...

How to watch Demon Slayer in order (TV series and movie)

(Image credit: Ufotable/Aniplex) Demon Slayer currently consists of three seasons, with two movies that are now technically skippable. But that's not as intimidating as it sounds: Here's how you should watch Demon Slayer in order. The first season, released in 2019, is 26 episodes long – and you should watch that from start to finish. Here’s where it gets a little trickier to follow. A sequel to the first season was released as a film: Demon Slayer: Mugen Train. The wildly successful Demon Slayer movie was also adapted into a television arc as part of Demon Slayer season 2. That 'Mugen Train' arc is seven episodes long and is then followed by 11 wholly original episodes in the 'Entertainment District' arc. In total, Demon Slayer season 2 is 18 episodes long. To keep things simple, we recommend watching Demon Slayer season 1 and then picking either the Mugen Train feature film or the Mugen Train recap arc (episodes 27-33) to watch. From there, you can watch the Entertainment District arc (episodes 33-44) A second Demon Slayer 'movie', To the Swordsmith Village, was released earlier in 2023. It bundles together episodes 10 and 11 of the Entertainment District arc and the first episode of season 3, AKA the Swordsmith Village arc. Demon Slayer season 3 has debuted, consisting of 11 episodes. That means To the Swordsmith Village is largely redundant. We recommend just jumping ahead to the proper TV episodes. Laid out on the page, the Demon Slayer watch order looks a little like...
