Diaphragm Pumps Selection Guide: Types, Features, Applications

Diaphragm pumps are positive displacement pump which movegases, liquids, orgas-liquid mixturesvia a reciprocating diaphragm. They are highly reliable because they do not include internal parts that rub against each other. They also contain no sealing or lubricating oils within the pumping head, meaning there is no chance of oil vaporleakage or contamination of the handled media. Advantages Disadvantages • Can run dry for short periods Pump Composition Simple diaphragm pumps consist of a diaphragm, displacement chamber, two valves, and a driving mechanism. The diaphragm is made of a flexible material compatible with the pumped media. It issealed in placebetween the side of the displacement chamber and an attachedflange. The chamber's volume is slightly greater than what the diaphragm can displace. The valves are typically spring-loaded or flapper valves made of the same material as the diaphragm, and they function to admit the fluid in and out of the chamber. The driving mechanism is what flexes the diaphragm - in the diagram below, the drive mechanism is a spring activated by a solenoid. Diagram of solenoid diaphragm pump. Double Diaphragm Pumps for Chemical Transfer

Double Diaphragm Pumps Graco’s double diaphragm pumps are designed for chemical transfer applications. Our chemical transfer pumps come in pneumatic and electric options, with many flow rates and sizes. Both metal and plastic housings can easily handle corrosive and abrasive fluids. All of our transfer pumps are thoroughly tested before they leave our factories. Designed with fewer parts than competitive pumps, Graco’s air operated double diaphragm pumps features our stall-free, low pulsation air valve, which is externally accessible—ensuring rapid changeovers and minimum downtimes. Graco’s electric double diaphragm pumps (EODD) are ideal for applications that require low pulsation and a smooth flow. Our energy efficient electric drive reduces energy consumption up to 5x compared to traditional air operated diaphragm pumps. Each pump is ruggedly constructed to resist corrosion and deliver a long, trouble-free product life. Designed to meet the growing demand for clean energy and sustainable technologies, QUANTM is the world’s first (and only) affordable electric operated double diaphragm (EODD) pump built to minimize energy consumption by cutting energy usage and costs by up to 80%. Innovative, new FluxCore motors and... Graco’s Husky air operated diaphragm pumps feature corrosion-resistant fluid paths, which make them ideal for corrosive and abrasive chemicals and solvents. Husky diaphragm pumps can be configured to meet abrasion, temperature and chemical compatibility re...
