Mayodia Pass is located about 56 km away from Roing in Arunachal Pradesh, at the Indo-China border above 2,655 m above sea level. Mayodia is a Deori-Chutia word and it stands for mother goddess worshipping place where Mayo means mother goddess, Di means water and Ya means land. The place is suitable for traveler, philosophers, thinkers, and explorers. Roing is the nearest town to Mayodia situated at a distance of 60 km but connected by hilly and very bad road. Roing which falls under lower dibang valley is also known as Jewels of Arunachal Pradesh. It witnesses heavy snowfall in January and February, snowfall starts in November and continues till April. Mayodia pass , Lower Dibang valley , Arunachal Pradesh is a tiny gateway to the Indo – China Border and is located at an altitude of 2,655 m. It is a unique hill resort named after a Nepali girl , Maya , who went missing in the snow and could not be traced . Mayodia is just 56 kms from Roing. To go to Mayodia Pass , you have to travel 195 kms from Dibrugarh to Roing. the best thing about the road trip from Dibrugarh to Roing is crossing the Bramhaputra by a country made ferry at Sadia Ghat . This is a complete new experience because you generally do not ferry your car across any major river. You take the connecting bridge . But this medieval way of crossing the river is actually very fun. But the road causes a bit of problem , but the scenic beauty is a feast for your eyes. Roing is a small town in Lower Dibang vally , Arunachal Pradesh. Its is the only town under Idu Mishmi , a major sub-group of Mishmi tribe , dominated areas. Roing has the Mehao wildlife santuary , Sally Lake etc. Sally Lake is smthing you would not want to miss . It falls on the way to Mayodia Pass. Mayodia is an ideal place for bike riders and trekkers . And it is also a paradise for the bird watchers . But the only problem here is the lack of electricity and a proper place to stay. But this tiny gateway to the Indo-China border is fast becoming the most-favoured destination of those who want to experience the magic of snowfall without having to go too far. Mayodia Pass, located at an altitude of 2,655 metres above sea level, can be accessed through Anini town. It witnesses heavy snowfall in January and February, which is the period when adventure-seekers from Upper Assam throng the place. “If snowfall is so near, why do we need to go to Kashmir?” asked Surjeet Singh, a resident of Dibrugarh. Ipra Mekola from Roing, who runs two guesthouses on behalf of the tourism and forest departments, said the inflow of tourists was increasing every year. “Snowfall is heavy between the end of January and the first half of February,” he said. The journey to Mayodia Pass is an adventure in itself without being overly taxing. For a tourist starting from the Upper Assam town of Dibrugarh, snow-capped Mayodia is just a seven-hour expedition away. A ferry ride on the Brahmaputra from Dholaghat to Sadiya adds to the excitement. From Sadiya, a tourist has to go to Chapakhowa, Assam’s extreme point on the eastern border, and then to Mayodia Pass via Roing. My wife and I toured this area a few days back. It is located about an hour and half driving distance away from Dibrugarh as well as from Tinsukia. One of the highlights of this place is the wonderful colonial times Forest Rest House located outside the forest main gate. It is a Rest House built on stilts and is rather well furnished considering its remoteness. We did not stay here at night but stopped to freshen up and enjoy the serene setting of the Rest House. DFO Dibrugarh will be the allotment authority in case you would like to stay here. Jaypore is actually a rain forest with thick undergrowth and lofty trees. You need an SUV to get into the forest since the roads need a high clearance vehicle. You could go about 5-6 kms into the forest and stop there just to savour the sounds of the woods. A few kilometres from Dibrugarh, Barbaruah maidams gives an insight to the history of Ahom monuments. Maidam or royal burial places are similar to the pyramids of Egypt and were used to bury the king or the royal families or officers of the highest rank. Kings were buried with all his belongings i.e. clothes, bed, jewellery, utensils and servants too.
