RCB picks Vidarbha’s Komal Zanzad, Disha Kasat for cash

Nagpur: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) bought Vidarbha pacer Komal Zanzad for Rs 25 lakh and batter Disha Kasat for her base price of Rs 10 lakh during Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction held on Monday. Both players are quite excited to play in the cash-rich franchise-based league. The auction was held at Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai on Monday. The 31-year-old uncapped left-arm fast medium pacer Komal, who performed well this year, evoked interest from RCB and Mumbai Indians. From her base price of Rs 10 lakh, she was picked by RCB for Rs 25 lakh after some serious bidding by the two teams. Current skipper Disha, who emerged as the top-run getter in domestic cricket this season in domestic Twenty20 cricket, was purchased by RCB at her base price of Rs 10 lakh. Both the players echoed similar sentiments after being selected for the maiden Women’s Premier League. “Super excited to be part of the first Women’s Premier League. It will be a great learning experience as we will get a chance to rub shoulders with India’s as well as world’s best at one platform,” said Komal and Disha. Both were confident of being picked for the mega event. “I did well (in domestic cricket) and was expecting to be picked but with auctions you never know. I am very happy that I got a chance. There was that suspense about where I will go (Mumbai Indians or RCB) during bidding,” said a happy Komal. “After ending as top scorer in the national event this season, I was very much confident o...

At a press conference, Mandhana was asked about face-offs with Harmanpreet, and she said, "We haven't played a lot of domestic cricket in the last four-five years and so didn't get opportunities to share our experiences with the domestic players. We have played the overseas leagues and know how the setup benefits. So I am sure I can help the RCB girls and she can help the MI girls." Having her batting services largely under-utilised for India, Pooja Vastrakar came in at No. 6 and showed her wares with an eight-ball 15. She could have a larger role to play for Mumbai Indians given she is one of the experienced players in the set-up. And don't be surprised if allrounder Jintimani Kalita is given more to do in her second outing as teams can afford to try the domestic players before the actual crunch games kick in. Kalita impressed with her athletic efforts and caught Harmanpreet's eye at Mumbai Indians' two intra-squad warm-up games.
