Our Kids Diwali Craft mini series continues. Today’s topic is a Paper Plate Rangoli Craft! A great way to introduce children into this old tradition of Rangoli making at Paper Plate Rangoli, is also a wonderful way to discuss colours, shapes and pattern making. Great for building those maths skills in young minds! Check out the rest of our Paper Plate Rangoli Craft Paper Plate Rangoli – Supplies: • Paper Plate • Colored craft papers • Scissors • Pencil • Craft glue How to make your Rangoli Kids Craft Watch the DIY Rangoli Video or follow the step by step instructions below! Select 5 to 6 colored craft papers for this project. Select each color for one shape. Trace the shapes on the craft papers with a pencil and cut them out nicely. Grab the paper plate, the shape cut outs and the craft glue. I glued a round shape cut out on the center of the plate. For the next layer I used the triangle cut outs. I kept the pointy edge facing outwards. For the third layer I used square cut outs. I glued each square in the gap between 2 triangles from the previous step. Did another layer of triangles but this time glued them with the pointy edge facing towards (the center). Just keep adding more shapes until the paper is filled. Remember, the more colourful and more shapes you add to the rangoli the better it will turn out! This is the fun part; it gives the paper plate rangoli a more festive look. Diwali 2022: Fun activities to celebrate Diwali and Bandi Chor Divas

Diwali, commonly known as the festival of lights, takes place on Monday, October 24 this year. Diwali is a Hindu festival celebrating the victory of Prince Rama over the evil demon Ravana. On the same day, Sikhs celebrate a festival called Bandi Chor Divas, which marks the release of the sixth Sikh Guru, Guru Hargobind Singh Ji, who was falsely imprisoned along with 52 innocent prisoners by the Mughal Emperor Jahangir. Diwali and Bandi Chor Divas are commonly celebrated by lighting Indian lamps which can either be called diyas or divas. Hindus visit the Mandir (Hindu temple), and Sikhs visit the Gurdwara (Sikh place of worship). We’ve chatted to parents about how they celebrate Diwali and Bandi Chor Divas with their little ones and have lots of simple, safe, and fun activities for you to get stuck into to mark the occasion. Punam Krishan, mother to eight-year-old son Aarish and one-year-old daughter Ellora, sees Diwali as an opportunity to bring everybody together and celebrate love and happiness. For Punam, Diwali festivities last for a few weeks and begin with a deep clean of the house. “This gets rid of all the negative energy, declutters and really allows us to welcome light into the home,” explains Punam. The Paper DIY Base Step 1: Select 2 different shades of craft papers for the round patterns and yellow colored craft paper for the teardrop pattern (flame). Trace the patterns and cut out 8-10 teardrop patterns from the yellow paper and 12-15 round patterns from the other 2 papers. Step 2: Take a round cut out and fold it into half. Step 3: Fold the piece from the previous step into half again. Step 4: Similarly fold all the other round cutouts into half twice. Assembling the paper diya base and flame Step 5: Take any 2 folded round patterns and apply glue along one of the cutouts closed sides. Once you are done gluing all the pieces together glue the last piece with the first piece on their sides. Step 6: Join the other folded round cutout with the glued one from side. Keep gluing each cutout one by one. Step 7: Take the yellow teardrop cutouts and fold them into half lengthwise. Step 8: Glue them side by side along their closed ends.
