Palkhis Arrive Today, Many Roads Out Of Bounds

PUNE: The Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj palkhi (palanquin) began its journey from Alandi to Pandharpur on Tuesday evening amid huge gathering of warkaris (a pilgrim sect). Warkaris from not only Maharashtra but also Karnataka, As per the tradition, the procession of the palanquin carrying the `paduka’ (revered footwear) of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj was brought out from the Alandi temple sanctum sanctorum at 7pm, almost two hours late than the usual time. “Owing to the overcrowding in and around the temple, we could not restrict the warkaris from entering the temple premises. They were participating in the procession after a hiatus of two years,” said Vikas Dagepatil, the chief trustee of the Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Temple trust. After completing half a round of the town, the palkhi will take an overnight halt at Gandhi Wada near the temple before beginning the journey to the Pune city. “We will start the journey to the city at 6am on Wednesday. During the 25km journey, the palkhi will take brief halts at the Magazine Chowk for breakfast and Phulenagar in Vishrantwadi for lunch. It will reach Sangamwadi around 5-5.30pm to welcome the Sant Tukaram Maharaj palkhi, which will come via the Pune-Mumbai old highway,” added Dagepatil. Pune Police launches Live Palkhi tracking facility

The Pune Police Commissionerate for the first time introduced Live Wari Tracking system to provide information on the procession of Sant Tukaram Maharaj and Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi. This system will also share details about the traffic diversions and closure of roads on certain routes. Palkhi of Sant Tukaram Maharaj arrived in Pune on Tuesday. The traffic police informed that several routes have been diverted for smooth functioning of the procession. Citizens can log onto Pune city Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta informed that this initiative will help them know the exact location of palkhis which will further help the people who can plan their travel accordingly. Gupta further stated that the website designed specifically will remain updated from Tuesday to which will allow people to track traffic diversions, live location of the of palkhi and the blockages on the road. This website will have details of both the processions. Citizens can also get access to get direct visit to the temple at Pandharpur, detailed information about the trustees and contact numbers, etc.
