“Do Revenge” Ending, Explained

Kim Simms/Netflix Yup, yes, my jaw dropped when this plot twist was revealed. So, let’s back up a bit. When Eleanor and Drea drive home together after tennis camp, Eleanor shares that Carissa (Ava Capri) — another student at Rosehill — outed her when they were younger, and spread a rumor that she tried to kiss her. So, when Eleanor and Drea team up to seek revenge on each other’s enemies, Drea exposes Carissa’s marijauna and mushroom plants to the school’s headmaster. As a result, Carissa is expelled from Rosehill. When their friendship falls apart and Drea begins to grow suspicious of Eleanor, she visits Carissa at a nearby rehabilitation center. Here, Carissa reminds Drea that she is the one that outed Eleanor at day camp. Drea spread the lies about Eleanor, and she even gave her a cruel nickname — “Nosy Nora.” This whole time, Eleanor was targeting Drea. She distracted Drea, ruining her chance of being accepted to her dream school, Yale. Eleanor sent the video of Drea around the tennis camp, not Erica (Sophie Turner). And Eleanor is the one who stole the spark plug from Drea’s car after camp. Although Eleanor has one final, grand plan to take down Drea and the rest of Rosehill Royalty, in the end, she and Drea band back together for one last takedown. Drea and Eleanor take down Max, finally Kim Simms/Netflix At the Admissions Party, Eleanor secretly records Max as he admits to leaking the explicit video of Drea to the entire school. The two expose Max’s misogynistic, to...

And also? It features Maya Hawke enthusiastically making out with a girl. Just saying! The people need to know! That Hawke locks lips with a lady in Do Revenge may be of interest to viewers not for lechery reasons—hopefully—but because it’s been two whole seasons, and three long years of Hawke not kissing girls in Stranger Things, despite the fact that her character, Robin Buckley, is a lesbian. Sure, there are reasons for that—Robin is only out to her best friend Steve, homophobia is rampant in the ’80s, and she’s more of a supporting character than a main one. But the poor Robin Buckley stans have been rooting for our girl to get some. It’s a loyalty that, so far, has paid out very few dividends. (Though fingers crossed she makes it work with Vickie in Season 5.) So if Hawke can’t get a fictional girlfriend in Stranger Things, at least she can get the romance she deserves in Do Revenge. As Eleanor, she’s an awkward outca...

Netflix’s ‘Do Revenge’ Movie Inspirations, Explained

Photo: Kim Simms/Netflix In the candy-coated black comedy Do Revenge, payback is best served in pastel with a side of “Glennergy.” The campy teen satire highlights the deliciously duplicitous and unlikely bond between Drea (Camila Mendes), a dethroned queen bee who wants to exact revenge on her ex-boyfriend for leaking a sex tape, and Eleanor (Maya Hawke), an awkward transfer student who wants to get even with the girl who outed her at summer camp. Cue a series of impressive attempts to take down the bullies who wronged them: drugging the entire senior class with mushrooms, exposing Drea’s golden-boy ex as a cheater, and a lot of blackmail. Embedded within the film’s palm-tree-littered Miami backdrop is a well of obvious homages to teen-movie nostalgia — from the posh plaid uniforms that evoke Cher and Dionne’s stylish ensembles in Clueless to Sarah Michelle Gellar’s presence as a headmaster in Cruel Intentions — and a Gen Z–friendly soundtrack that includes Olivia Rodrigo, Muna, and Billie Eilish. Writer-director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson — the mastermind behind the buddy-comedy rom-com Someone Great and the canceled-too-soon TV series Sweet/Vicious — channeled a ton of deep cinematic and style references along with easier-to-spot visual tributes to rom-com classics. Here, she walks us through her inspirations in her own words. The style: Winona Ryder grunge meets Fran Fine couture. Photo: Kim Simms/Netflix I didn’t want to chase trends. Woman's Revenge on Employer After Being Laid Off Applauded: 'Gotcha'

A woman has won widespread support online after detailing the hilarious prank she played on her former employers after being laid off. In a video posted under the pseudonym Marchie, the woman, who works office jobs in between acting gigs, shared a story from a previous role she held in Utah which she ended up being let go back in May. "I did not have an inkling that anyone in my department was on the chopping block," she said. "Ultimately, I was the only one in my department laid off." Marchie said it left her "extremely upset and overcome with dread" as to how she would make ends meet. Thankfully, she had already booked an acting gig for the summer, so reckoned she had just enough to tide her over. Even so, she came up with a way to exact a modicum of revenge on her former employers. Being laid off from a job In March, a survey of 1,002 Americans by personal finance site GoBankingRates found 20 percent of respondents had been laid off from a job in the past 12 months. How we respond to adversity can often define us. Marchie was the only one laid off from her department. So she decided to exact a little revenge. the.marchie "Part of what makes being laid-off so horrible is that you have no control of the situation," she said. "I wanted to feel like I left somewhat on my own terms." So, on her last day, she printed off 20 to 30 pictures of herself with a speech bubble. In each of the picture's speech bubbles, she wrote a phrase like "parting is such sweet sorrows" or "GOTCH...
