Dyslipidemia is defined as having blood lipid levels that are too high or low. Blood lipids are fatty substances, such as triglycerides and cholesterol. Many people achieve healthy levels by eating a balanced diet and through other aspects of their lifestyle. However, some require medication to prevent additional health problems. While the term describes a wide range of conditions, the most common forms of dyslipidemia involve: • high levels of low-density lipoproteins (LDL), or bad • low levels of high-density lipoproteins (HDL), or good cholesterol • high levels of triglycerides • high cholesterol, which refers to high LDL and triglyceride levels Lipids, or fats, are building blocks of life and provide energy to cells. Dislipidemia Adalah?

Dislipidemia adalah istilah medis yang menunjukkan adanya gangguan lemak pada darah, termasuk kolesterol dan trigliserida. Istilah dislipidemia berasal dari kata dys- yang berarti gangguan, lipid yang berarti lemak atau kolesterol, dan –emia yang berarti di dalam darah. Kondisi ini juga sering diartikan sebagai peningkatan kadar kolesterol total. Komponen yang sering diukur dalam menentukan ada tidaknya dislipidemia adalah: • Kadar • Low-density lipoprotein (LDL). Nilai normalnya dibawah 100 mg/dL (untuk penderita diabetes mellitus atau ada gangguan jantung, kadar LDL harus dibawah 70 mg/dL). • • High-density lipoprotein (HDL). Nilai normal pada pria diatas 40 mg/dL, sedangkan pada wanita diatas 50 mg/dL. Lipoprotein adalah suatu senyawa gabungan dari lemak dan protein yang terlarut di dalam darah. Lemak atau kolesterol tersebut dibutuhkan oleh tubuh untuk menghasilkan kalori (energi) dan sebagai bahan baku untuk pembentukan hormon tertentu. Oleh karena itu, lemak atau kolesterol ini harus tetap berada di dalam tubuh manusia, namun harus dalam batas kadar yang normal, tidak boleh dihilangkan sama sekali. Apabila kadarnya berlebihan juga tidak baik, karena dapat menimbulkan berbagai macam penyakit lain. Pada dislipidemia, kadar lemak yang beredar di dalam darah tersebut mengalami gangguan.
