When affected horses consume meals high in specific carbohydrates, their bodies produce higher than normal levels of insulin and are slow to return to baseline values. These clinical signs were previously referred to as hypothyroidism, peripheral Cushing’s disease, prelaminitic syndrome, or Syndrome X. This disorder often affects a subset of horses bred to survive in harsh climates, including ponies, donkeys, Arabians and mustangs. These breeds utilize glucose very efficiently to ensure that they have plenty of energy reserves when food is scarce. When these “thrifty” horses are placed in an environment where they have access to an abundance of carbohydrates and do not get as much exercise as they would in their ancestral habitats, they suddenly consume too many calories. One of the most serious co...

What paramedics want in 2022

In the 2022 EMS Trend Survey, as in years past, we examine perceptions and experiences across the country on topics like staffing, clinical adoption and hope for the future. This year, we also dove deeper into certain areas than we have previously, most notably related to leadership and safety. Because if some of the concerns and issues raised by the EMS clinicians surveyed here remain steady through good times and bad, it’s clear they are persistent and deeply rooted in the profession. And it will take thoughtful, bold and compassionate leaders to tackle them. In addition to the survey results, we’ve asked several experts to join us for their interpretations and action items for EMS leaders, with the goal of translating data into information, and information into action. Because like its predecessors, this year’s seventh annual EMS Trend Survey is not only about exploring the state of EMS today. It’s about creating a path to a better EMS experience, for patients, families and especially caregivers. • What paramedics want: Defining a path forward • Roundtable: Action steps to move EMS forward • Will EMS matter in the future of healthcare? • Proven recruitment and retention strategies • 3 Toxic traits in medicine Fill out the form below to download your copy of "What paramedics want in 2022." Does Emsculpt Really Work: Before & After, Clinical Results [2023]

Table of Contents • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • You may hear of the EmSculpt as an exclusive device on the market that helps to build up muscle and reduces far simultaneously. However, like other methods, it is not a magical cure-all treatment that suits everyone. It has its own For this article, we dive into the research of the How does EmSculpt work? EmSculpt is a totally non-invasive, non-downtime, and safe body contouring procedure. It build-up the muscle mass while burning the fat down. As a result, you get a toned body and get rid of stubborn fat. The EmSculpt treatment is based on the high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) stimulation of the motor neurons that innervates muscles. While the impulse is sent to them they cause supramaximal muscle contractions. Supramaximum contractions have a high intensity and tension. They cause strengthening and growth of the muscles in the treated area. In addition to muscle mass increase, the EMSculpt also causes the reduction of fat cells nearby. When the stimulation starts, fat cells change their metabolism to produce more free fatty acids (FFA) to supply energy to the muscles. As the contractions are intensive, fat cells over-accumulate FFA, which causes their death. In late 2020 the EmSculpt Neo hit the market. It combines a classical EmSculpt and radiofrequency (RF) into a single, non-invasive treatment. The main feature of EmSculpt Neo is increased fat reduction. Radiofrequency waves selecti...

How to Get Fit Using Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS)

Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS), also known as neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) or electromyostimulation, is a protocol that elicits a muscle contraction using electrical impulses that directly stimulate your motor neurons. An EMS unit (like a Powerdot, Compex, Tone-A-Matic, or MarcPro) is a device that delivers this in the comfort of your own home. This stimulation creates muscle contractions that can be quick and frequent, fast with long pauses, or contractions that are held for several (uncomfortable) seconds or minutes at a time. Normally, it is your body that fires your muscles by sending electrical impulses from your brain through your central nervous system (CNS). But an EMS device allows you to engage in deep, intense, and complete muscular contractions without actually activating (or stressing) your CNS—not to mention your joints and tendons. The coolest thing is that your body doesn’t know the difference between a voluntary contraction and an electrically stimulated one. Your (silly) body only recognizes that there is a stimulus and reacts to it accordingly. If this sounds a little wacky to you, don't worry—there is science to back this up. A study published in the At the conclusion of that study, the researchers stated that “EMS offers a promising alternative to traditional strength training for enhancing the strength parameters and motor abilities in athletes.” Another study from 2015 titled “ In this study, a group of subjects received 30 minute...
